What rear end


Yeah, very true. I guess all I was getting at is that you can do an 8.8 swap for less than $20 assuming you have autozone nearby, don't mind cutting up a 7.5 and not counting the cost of the axle itself.

My first 8.8 swap involved new spring perches, shock mounts etc so it was quite a bit more expensive.
 
I used Ruffstuff perches and mounts, I don't think it was too bad (7 years ago anyway)
 
302 and an AOD I'd go with 4.10 rear gear in a street truck, probably a Silverfox valve body as well.

302 and a 2.95 1st gear T5Z or similar ratio box, I'd go with 3.73 rear gear.

But that's just me.
