On my 91 4x4 2.9 5spd ranger? I hope it wont be a problem when i drop it's 2.9 into my 89 2wd auto ranger that doesnt have this plug.

cruise mabey?
nope my 89 has cruise its a square 6 pin connector that comes out right by the bigass firewall connector but is separate from it.
this thing just pops out of the main harness by the passenger headlight and clips on to the top of the core support with this weird jumper plug

It is a connector to hook the taillight/brake lights to a tow vehicle. You could buy the connector from the dealership to connect your Ranger behind your motor home!

I'm not sure they all had it. It may be part of a tow package.
