i have a 1986 with the 2.3.. when i push on the gas pedal, I hear a bunch of clicking which sounds like it's coming from under the hood.. over by the airbox... is it normal to hear this clicking?????:yahoo:

open the hood and throttle it up manually and listen to try and pinpoint the sound.

mine did that for awhile. but then it stoped all of a sudden. i think it was a loose bracket.

Clicking isn't normal...could be a number of things though...I'd try what Bryan22 suggested...if you can't hear it when you're idle then it may be something stuck on the underside...

If it only happens when you push the gas pedal then I guess much of what you look for depends on how fast it clicks and how loud...could be something stuck on a belt too...so when you rev it up it clicks faster and is more noticable...like the shroud on your fan or the one on the alternator is touching...easy to fix...just twist them back away from the fans...

sounds like the egr relay. mine did that before it went out. i have a 86 with a 2.3 also. it is on the fender well behind the air box.

Is it "clicking" or more of a clattering sound?:)shady

Re....

Hello, the clicking is more of a chatter, when i push on the gas pedal.. it does not do it when sitting still, only when i push the gas pedal... sometimes when i first take off it will not do it, but then it will start and continue for a bit... thanks for your help... where is the EGR RELAY at????
