I do not have word and I need to purchase one. When I go to a retail store and look up the keyword 'Microsoft', there are a bunch of results.

Vista blows. Buy Windows 7.

I'll second the purchase of ,"Windows-7" Does everything vista does and does it better, less memory, faster.

Just MHO

Ronv :) :) :)

Good catch Jay, but maybe he needs to wiggle the cable...

Get it right ... Vista (Windows7, Windows XP, others) are ALL operating systems, NOT programs (as technically classified). The operating system (OS) is the basis for running other programs.

Vista is a trial run for a good operating system. It is not a good operating system for real world use.

Go with Windows 7.

LOL.

I would rather have XP or 2000 than Vista. Hell, I'd probably rather have 98SE.

Windows 95 was the best OS ever produced. Least amount of problems/errors ever.

There is nothing wrong with Vista for real world use unless it's on an under powered machine (which OEM's did sell it with)

I will give you that there is no reason to buy it now as 7 is better, but there is nothing wrong with how Vista runs now.

Judging by what is said here, and the fact that you have posted on here I don't think its Vista or 7 that you are looking for. I believe what you are looking for is "Microsoft Office." There is also a program called open office that is free that functions the same way and will even open the files from MS Office so you can also check into that.

MS Office this is where you get "Word" for windows.

Open Office this is a free Office suite that contains a word processor program similar to MS Word.

vista is a good operating system if you know how to do setup properly.

If you need "word" which is part of microsoft office there may be another more economical solution for you...

RATHER than buy a new Operating system AND Microsoft office, each of which is
expensive

Go to cnet.com and go to their free downloads.

there is an open source equivelent of MS office that may
do everything you need it to do...
It's called "Open office"

So cnet.com, free downloads then enter "Open Office" in the search window at the top of the page.

OpenOffice works with ALL MS-Office file types.

I'm 99% happy with Vista-buisness (sp2) on my Dell 1526 notebook, the one thing that annoys
the hell out of me is the popup security window that comes up when I try to open most programs
asking if the application has permission to operate.

No, I just clicked the icon to see that #$%&$ message again... STUPID

If I could turn that stupid warning OFF I'd keep Vista and never again think about
blowing $100-ish on a CoA for 7-pro

You can shut the UAC (security prompt) off by doing this,
1.Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
2.Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" . Click on that line.
3.Press the Launch button.
4.A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
5.Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
You can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button.
