what engine would YOU use

Im going to be the oddball here....

Ford 400, non emission timing set, RV cam, headers, edelbrock 650 sitting on a torker intake.

Backed by a T18 4sp.

It took Ford quite a long while to build a mustang that would keep up with the Camaro once chebby started putting the LS in them..

It was also their undoing.

Added too much Corvette content to them which ended up killing the car.

They were the thing when I was in high school but it was 10:1 vs the Mustang (which was quicker than most things out there at the time) It was pretty close in performance to the Cobra (I think the Terminators had an edge) but the plain old GT's printed money for Ford and were everywhere.

The Camaro chassis left a lot to be desired which also probably didn't help their sales much either (both times they killed it lol)

V8 swaps are cliche AF though. Get yourself a 13b and stuff that sucker in there... nothing comes close to the unrelenting wail of a dorito motor when it's high on the pipe.. And I'd be willing to bet that there probably isn't a single rotary swapped ranger in the country..

I don't know, a V8 in full battle rage sounds pretty darn good...

Yeah.. Chevy/GM historically has a history of making "whoopsies" that wind up motivating them to axe a model because it ended up being faster than the grail car 'vette lol. The GNX is the prime example.. I believe the syclone shared the same story.

Didnt help them that the Camaro started on the f body in 67 and kept the same underpinnings for 35 years 🤦🏻‍♀️ while vettes got entire makeovers every 5-6 years for the most part. I don't remember the exact reason they stopped making the Camaro after the 4th gen.. sales probably?.. each subsequent generation after the OGs definitely just got uglier and uglier though 🤢 yuck.

The battle cry of a v8 IS a formidable sound.. like a line of howitzers doing their thing during the reappropriation of natural resources lol..

.. a rotary under a heavy boot is more like.. a swarm of 10k pissed off murder hornets who wanna all poke you at once

I know at least the later ones were a total PITA to work on and yeah, the pricing got a little heavy handed.

Mustang was rolling on the fox platform from 79-04...

It would be a great home for your aforementioned 400. :icon_rofl:

Chevy people would get all excited when you say it has a 400 and then stroke out when you pop the hood. :stirthepot:

04? Damn.. I didn't know that. I thought the fox was laid to rest whenever Ford came out with the edge platform or whatever it was called.

I think GM has the record of keeping a single platform in production for the longest period... The D body.. 6 dang decades.. lol.

SN95/new edge was still Fox... modified but it was still fox.

Don't forget the mid engine Pontiac. Supposed to be a V8 super car, too fast, put a 4 banger in it.

20 years later they remake it and call it a Corvette

A FürherWagen slapped on a b2 frame would be neat.. wheelbases should be relatively close..

I have mulled a Disco II on Explorer Sport.

Wheelbases are within an inch or two, lose the problematic driveline and rust prone frame on one and the other loses the rust prone body.
