i work on a oil rig as a backup hand.

nice i used to be a roughneck .. for a natural gas rig. made a killing it was sweet .. worked there 9 months then my best friend died right next to me ... was the mudpit man .... we were rackin pipes then placing fed-weight in the pit, his hand caught on the chain up top and his dumb ass was not strapped in harness ... needless to say fell all 30 feet and died on impact while his hand chilled up top with the chain ... miss that guy man was only 23 years old ..... but its a great job man its hard ass work but it payes when ur working 12 on 12 off 7 days on 7 days off ..... don't know if oil rigs the same but prob. close

that musta been a hell of a few pages back? damn, jan. but i work at a delievery company that just ships to speedee delivery. god, if you can avoid it please do. we dont give a sh*t about your stuff lol. stuff gets broken all the time. oh, and my job discrption is part-time package handler -.-

drilling rigs are drilling rigs. though in constant evolution, they bore holes in the ground.

sorry to hear about your friend. i have lost a few friends myself and i am aware it can happen to me any time.

mud pit man? you worked on a super single? or did you have to stand back pipe in the derrick? not sure if you meant he was on a stack running a hopper for the fed-weight or if he was in the derrick racking pipe and somehow got caught in a winch line??


it took two years before they would allow us to call ourselves roughnecks when i broke out in 92.....the shit going on now is much different....always changing...not always for the better.

I'm a second engineer on a supplyvessel in the north sea, work for 4 weeks 12 hours a day, then 4 weeks off. This vessel is powered by LNG, using Wartsila 32 DF engines.
We bring all kinds of stuff from the supplier base out to the oil and gas rigs in the north sea/norwegian sector.
Been working at sea for the last 12 years, since I was 17 years old, gradually working my way up the ranks.

I work for a company called Bay Valve. We repair and test safety relief valves for refineries, power plants, anywhere with boilers and or tanks basically. lots of travel and long hours, however I have recently moved up into our office doing inside sales and quality control.
