Greed is definitely the real problem driving things. It’s kind of ironically funny that a lot of the big corporate greed types are also the ones screaming at everyone to protect the environment despite greed being a significant destructor to the environment.

Not really, its a smaller world and to survive they have to compete with companies with cheap labor available to them.

If they don't then those companies will just come over here.

I kind of disagree. We live in a disposable society with a poor grasp of recycling. Greed drives these decisions instead of building quality stuff that lasts and is easily repairable and upgradable with an eye towards easily recycled. It is possible to build stuff like that, but there’s no real money in that.

I agree,

in 10-15 years, if the infotainment system craps out on my F150, Ford will say sorry, no longer available, time for a new truck, and that system literally runs almost everything on my truck. They just want you to go out and buy a new vehicle and pay stupid high prices

I've had some decent parts from Taiwan but don't remember ever getting a quality part from China.
It's hard for an American company to compete with countries like China that have no environmental regulations, no OSHA, and no unions. I try to buy as many American made parts as I can because buying foreign stuff is voting with your cash for lax environmental control and unsafe working conditions but sometimes it's hard to find American made parts. The playing field for manufacturers is not close to level.
