What Do You Hate About Your Ranger???

My Speil

Well the stuff I "hate" about my baby is first: I hate that it has surface rust on it so i have to wait till after all the rain to get it sanded, i hate that the previous owner lied in saying he didn't know what was wrong with the truck even though he had it for over 2 years (to keep it short, i spent about $200 trying to get it running for a daily driver, by replacing the distributor but then finding out it was just the heater core leaking on the inertia switch), i didn't like the same thing as everyone else no cup holder but i solved that by going to walmart and buying a $3 cup holder, for my 82 stang, that i threw at my passenger seat in hopes of it working :icon_thumby:, next i don't like how ford did the 2.9 with so little room cause i got some stuff for a tune up but am too lazy to get in there to take stuff apart to install them, and like jhammel85 was saying i also have a banging sound going around corners but i believe thats my 24 pack of Mountain Dew that i keep in the tool box :D , so far thats about the only thing i can hate bout my truck, it has its issues but for what its worth and what my plans are its great.

I guess the only thing I can say i dislike about my Ranger is that the tailgate quit working and after a long story I replaced the whole bed and everything. So its just peachy again. Of course, now that I said that, I have to say I just sold it last week. I love the value that they keep. I bought it for $2900 7 years ago. It had 97,000 on it. Throughout the past 7 years I replaced the whole exhaust, did tune-ups, replaced the bed ($100-same color), installed air shocks, new filler-tube, front shocks, timing belt, and electric fan. Sold it for $1300.
That calculates out to a car payment of $19.05 a month. Plus parts, i guess.
Not too bad.

I think I love my truck. But I love my new 2011 5.0 Mustang GT more.

Things I hate:

Gawd awful noise my driveline makes when flexed out... Can't seem to trim enough off that damn skid plate.

Overload leafs "walk" or rotate on their perches.

Absolute lack of power on hills, this is mostly due to 33's and 3.73's.

Rear axle "clunk" when taking off from a stop.

C-clip rear axle.

Steering is very suspectsble to changes in ride height. Any changes in ride height affects the steering/toe alignment negatively.

Lack of rear access doors on my '96.

Electronic shift on the fly transfercase.

But with all the cons comes a lot of positives that out weigh them.

Shitty MPG's lack of storage i.e. no cubby holes and really no good place to put my rifle(I wish i had that cover thing where the back seats should be. Out of sight of thives). and the god damn torrsion bars. Oh and the dumb 60/40 seats

cleats in the bed rather than hooks... no light switch to turn the light on above the bed.

oh and the fact that it doesn't have the 3.5 ecoboost or 3.7.

I've got a few more..

Sometimes I feel like my truck is made of glass. I'm almost a little scared to really lay onto it merging into traffic.

The crappy ride quality that I've got at the moment...New shocks all the way around but there must be some bad bushings in the suspension...

I REALLY hate the fact that the old Boxnoses are getting either junked for scrap or worse yet, turned into trail only POS' that are not even Ford trucks anymore. Everything else, well, I can deal with it. It's kinda like having a Bronco... It's not about the truck, it's about the lifestyle.

^ I totally agree with that. I don't think there is anything wrong with a trail only truck but it depends on how it's done, you know?

The older the 1st gens get, the more worried I get because they do seem to get scrapped A LOT!

Very true on both counts. Sadly though, the trail only things are getting to be more common than a "usable" 1st gen, at least around here. Every "usable" box that I can save, I do, even if it is only as or for parts. The trailtruggies seem to only be a Ranger by paperwork, so that they can have a licenseplate to be able to go wheeling. Now, I enjoy wheeling myself, but, I can't help but shake my head at the people that take a good, non-hammered RBV and slice it up to built a tubbed rig out of.

Lack of power and no cup holders. But I am taking care of the lack of power part really soon.

That every window I have had put in a Ranger leaks. Mostly the windshields. I just found out my door seals are leaking this morning too. Also, the trucks around here seem to be made of gold when you want one and aren't worth anything when you want to get rid of one.

Who designed the Gen 1's without door speakers? The ones in the dash suck and there isn't much room for any behind the seat.

...still better than the S-10's I have had.

No hate , just have a major dis-like for the wheel bearing retention, (or my inability ) to make the left side last more than a few months at a time.

I take back what I said about the valve cover gaskets...damn bolts were just loose!

First post in a while but had to post something. I`m 6 foot 275 in a regular cab that has Reclining Buckets. Ahhhhh how far back can I Recline ??? And why don`t I have a center council like in some 4x4s . Why put a bench seat in a truck with a stick ???.That flip down cassette arm thing is bull $**%, Oh yea I did pay 250 bucks for the truck . LOL
