What did YOU do today?

I caught a cold over the weekend so I took a sick day yesterday and did some light work around the house so as to not get my employees sick. Felt like garbage but was pretty happy with the completion list:
- linseed oil on the bike shed siding, the cedar gate in front of the trash cans, and the smokehouse
- back yard mowed
- windfall apples picked up, think I am at 7 wheelbarrow loads so far this year
- carb cleaned on big generator and did the usual 30 minute run under load
- replaced carb on little Echo weed trimmer
- dumped gas out of everything I know I won't need before next year

I was pretty beat by the end of that so I finished out the day by organizing a bunch of hole saws & tap/die supplies into a new side tool box that I got recently. Then about 4 hours of youtube videos.

I just love the way linseed oil brings out the color in wood. The smokehouse was almost a gray color before after weathering with just a coat of Thompsons water seal last year about this time. That stuff is junk. Dry time on linseed oil is much longer but the wait is worth it.

Did a bit more on the 8N hood tonight, looks so much better with headlights! be even better right side up & on the tractor. this thing is heavy! crazy how aftermarket pieces like the lights, wing bezels have metric hardware. Lights also have a low & high beam. I don’t really need lights but I think it looks much better with them on.

Dropped the ATV off in the shop at mom's house to go over and install a which this weekend. I bought the '10 TRX420 maybe 8 years ago. Gotten to where some of the places I hunt you don't want to ride into because you might need help getting back out. Decided to install a winch so that I can hook to the deer and drag back to the ATV that is parked on more solid ground. Found a second hand aftermarket bumper for it last hunting season, they were discontinued a few years ago and impossible to get new. Picked up a Badlands 3500lb winch and synthetic rope when it was on sale earlier in the year. With dad going into the hospital never got around to dragging the thing home to install. Now that he's gone, I figured I better get it installed before the season starts, because I don;t have someone to call if I get stuck anymore.

Got it dropped and unloaded, retrieved the '99 Ranger that had been stored over there since last week. Then got a ride with mom to the doctor on the other side of town to get my eye injections. Vision finally cleared up enough feel like reading and typing just in time to shut down the computer and hit the sack.

Took some pallets home from work because they were there and were going to be tossed, got home and unloaded those then cleared some junk out of the daily driver ranger... then jumped in the F350 and hooked the trailer to it, unloaded the pallet of 2" steel conduit long swept elbows I got for free at the last auction then loaded the '90 Ranger on it. After that I pulled the leaky tire off my Gorilla cart/wagon to fix the tube, found a tiny hole and patched it... have a spare tube but going to start here... Now dinner then packing some junk in the camper/Ranger/trailer to work on being ready to leave whenever that might be...

I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a director at work explaining how to set up and connect a new laptop, docking station and monitors. His excuse for not knowing the difference between an ethernet cable and a keyboard was the he is 51 years old. I don't know how to respond to that since I'm older than 51.

Change of plans... the wife doesn't want to go on this camping trip since she got a cold, I don't want to drag 18k pounds of stuff over the pass for two nights and basically one day... so I'm going to "overland" it in the Explorer which lets me cut off basically an hour of drive time... low is only supposed to be upper 40's so probably just front passenger seat in a sleeping bag (air matress is too much work, yes I'm going to regret this decision :)), I did it ~ 2 years ago, can't be any worse than then... this method will probably save $100 in fuel...

So far I added gear oil to the rear axle (it doesn't differentiate so it's not a differential...), was only a pint low so not bad... turns out the cover is leaky... Then I moved to the front and added 1/2 a roll of electrical tape to make 3 sway bar bushings... Now to keep gathering stuff to throw in, got most of it, annoyingly I didn't freeze my salt water bottles after July when I used them so I'll have to get some ice... I don't trust the battery enough to use an electric cooler although I'll probably bring the small one...

The Explorer will be less fun than the Ranger but the Explorer is more ready for the drive alignment wise, the drivers side CV is clicking but I can drive without that if it gives out...

I completely understand. After I divorced Satan, I had to rethink all my trips with nobody to carry my stuff.

I got my TRS trophy notification!

(remind me, how long does it take to get the $500 gift card?)

Banged out of my part-time gig.
(Claimed I was getting mando'ed at the firehouse.)

Went to the gym for a quick run.
(Because getting old suxors.)

Somehow managed to waste FOUR HOURS with nothing to show for it.

On a different note, how do people who don't fix their own chit fill their days?

Seriously.

The 18k pounds is mostly me, got 2200lb trailer, 4000lb ranger, say 500 pounds of pallets and firewood, extra gas, then the 3000lb camper on the back of the 7000lb truck... but the camper is so I could get better food and a better bed but she wouldn't be really happy if we didn't have that... The Explorer is pretty fun on 31's in the sand... the extra thousand pounds get "detained" easier though...
