I doubt Tik Tok would have even considered us, the tree fit under the closed tonneau cover.

I walked about 100 yards to my neighbors tree farm, cut down a Christmas tree, and brought it home.

And I didn’t tell him.

Like usual, I had big plans, but at least I got the smog pump replaced on Ole Blue, the 88 Town Car. After morning rain, it was a 2 hour job that ended up taking 4 hours, because the top bolt that held it in place was impossible to put back the way it was.

It’s about 3/8 and has one of those shotgun shell size spacers on the backside. I fiddled with that thing, got my knuckles bloody, and Lincoln was laughing at me. I finally took that spacer and marked it on one side, and then chamfered the leading edge on each end on the other side. I had to hold it in place with one of those 15-inch long angled needle nose things, and then try to tap it in with the butt end of the handle on a 2 pound hammer. After about 80 tries and a half pound of crap in my eyes, it finally popped into place. But at least the ground was still soaking wet.

I did all the general maintenance and check out stuff for the holidays. It’s been sitting under the trees with the leaves falling for about a month, so I’m thinking of washing it while it’s wet in the rain tomorrow. Sounds crazy, but it’s the easiest way sometimes to get all the crud off.

Then all I have to do is get the Missing Linc trailer, the Road Ranger trailer, and the Road Ranger out of the way, and I can actually drive it.

But it’s progress….

I had an "Ol' Blue" growing up. My dad and stepbrother went half on a '69 Mercury Coupe. Step Bro wrecked it and is sat parked until Mother Nature reclaimed her.

My friend is working on a 37 Chevy truck for one of his friends. He brought me the transmission yesterday and I tore it down to see what it needs. Being a 3 speed with a non syncro low, there isn't much inside it but everything is weird compared to newer manual transmissions. Getting the rear bearing out was a battle because one of the ears was broken off the retaining clip. The nasty,black fluid was full of metal particles. It has no front seal- just a slinger and a hole to let fluid drip on the ground- and no rear seal between the trans and the torque tube so if you go up hill the fluid runs back into the torque tube. I rebuilt a 35 Ford pickup transmission years ago and it had a front seal at least, it also had a V8 instead of a 5 main bearing 6 cylinder.
I'm leaving it up to him to locate parts.

I just had a new Torsen installed. So I took the Ranger out for a test drive. It slipped around, of course. Only chains and studs seem to work on ice. Still, it grabbed the road the road well. Its behavior was predictable and well mannered. so much better than the old open wheel differential.

Stayed home from work so the cat would have someone to sleep on all morning.

Naw.. it was just too rainy/windy.. cat was a bonus though.


Now I'm headed for coffee, donut, and napa. Thats probably it for the day lol, got a case of the lazies.
