Working on getting the secret project roadworthy. I had to learn how to work on one of those turbo-encabulator things that our forefathers used...

Finished installing a new whole house furnace humidifier in the sister-in-laws house just down the street. Wouldn't be so bad but my tools just aren't at hand and I always run into something unexpected.

There was an existing humidifier on this furnace but my gawd what cubby workmanship. Gawd I hate messes like that. This humidifier could never have worked - a fan driven Honeywell installed on the high pressure outlet side of the furnace. That piddly fan could never have had enough poop to feed air into the pressure side of the furnace. Furthermore it was largely held in place with duct tape!

My first wife always said I didn't have time for whatever and we should just hire a "professional." There was always time, however, to fix up the mess they left. Finally left her mess behind as well, ha ha.

Broke the bank buying fluids for the engine swap. Wow stuff has gotten expensive.

Gear oil to top off front diff (leaking axle seal) - $11
Coolant - $30 ...doesn't get changed all that often
10w30 & Fliter - $40 ...typical, better than paying someone
Mercon V - $220 (10-14/qt) :shok:

Yeah I didn't buy the Mercon V at the local auto parts store. Instead I found Valvoline Maxlife at Walmart for $25/gal. Was same price as the Walmart Super Tech Mercon V and actually available in quantity I needed. Well available delivered tomorrow. I'd be waiting a few days or hitting several stores to get enough of anything else from anywhere else. Pretty sure it's better quality too, and valvoline lists it as being compatible with Mercon V systems. Still about $125 for transmission fluid, but that's a lot better than the other options.

Also stopped by pick-n-pull to grab the last connector I needed to finish wiring up the swap, now I nust need to find my solder sleeve kit to I can install it. Few more paorts to be delivered and hopefully I'll be able to get this project wrapped up.

That'll have to wait a day or two though. On Saturday I was leaving the scouting function I helped with, stopped to help someone move a disabled vehicle out of the road, and suddenly had and my car wouldn't restart. As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Had not choice to get a tow, and discovered the next day that the shifter cable bushing broke sticking it in drive. Parts should be delivered tomorrow to get it fixed, then I'll be able to get back to the Ranger.

Well I unpacked, went through, and packed back up my camping gear. Got everything together and ready to through in the truck for this weekend's adventure at LBL.

It's been a busy couple of weeks with the organizations I volunteer with.

One item of note is we got word that the casket of a solder was coming through the Pittsburgh airport on it's way to it's final resting place in Ohio. We took steps to make sure it got a proper military reception and send off as it was unloaded from the plane and loaded into the hearse. We don't get those often and only had a little over a day to make it work but we got 'er done.

Woke up and swore about another snowstorm.. then made an attempt at making the best of it 👌

I really hate advancetrac though -__-

Watching Hockey on a lazy rainy Saturday.

Pulled a monater sized wxplorer front sway bar at the local junkyard. I also inspected and measured the rear bronco2 sway bar for Lefty but its not the 1" bar, its a 3/4" bar.

The wxplorer bar was around 1 3/8s if i remember where the ranger front was around 1", i think. Either way, holy cow is it huge compared to the ranger so that sucker will probably get put on today after i mount all these "floating" shelves the wife wants put up in the kitchen

Laundry day. It's too wet to do any of the work I'd want to do.

Put new monster sized explorer front sway bar on. Wow, its like 3/8 thicker than the stock edge front bar

You will like it. I did the bigger Explorer front bar, the Explorer rear axle run in spring under with the Explorer rear suspension goodies and lowered. I can actually tell that my limitations in cornering are tire squish now. Need to scare up some 18” Explorer rims and get some tires that work out to around 29” and nice and wide which should take most of that away. I have 31x10.50-15 on it now and they’re way too much sidewall for a street machine.

it feels a lot more solid now. i didn't have any complaints before, except in a strong side wind, which is very common here. but the front feels a lot more solid in all driving situations, so far.

and i have to big a tire for sporty driving too. i think i will go back and inspect that bronco2 rear bar some more to see if its good, or if its too corroded to use. if its good, its a decent amount larger than my rear bar so i will grab it and install it on my truck.

Other than went to work, not much. I did do a 5.25 mile hike around the base with my 37 pound SAR pack. The base is all hills and valleys. So, while not as tough as hiking a trail, it was a pretty good work out. My SAR unit has some 10 and 20 mile hikes planned this year. So, I have my work cut out building up to that. To think, some people do that and longer for fun...

I finished repairs on my secret project. Trying to insure it now and get it on the road this week. Anyone who knows Fords well enough should be able to guess what it is...

All that time spent welding up the Bronco paid off here. Its not beautiful, but I did hammer it out in a few hours and the seat fits correctly.
