What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I highly recommend them. The 2019 has them and I liked them so much I finally installed a set on the 2011. I left the factory bar in place in the odd chance I would ever need it but having those struts is really nice and less likely to be in the way when working in the engine bay. Plus, if they are ever in the way, I can disconnect them as needed and use the factory support bar. I like options.

You can see I left the prop rod in for the same reasons.

Oh wise ones. Brake pedal switch question on the Missing Linc, 87 4WD 5sp.

I have top-of-fender mounted turn signal indicators that are wired into the rear brake lights. I wire them through the circuit that goes to the trailer with a fuse, so if they go out, I know the trailer has no brake lights.

My question has nothing to do with that, other than I can see how my brake lights come on and off as I step on the pedal. Let me emphasize I never brake check anybody.

When someone is close to me, I like to just touch the brake pedal enough that the lights come on. I think most people do it simply because they are daydreaming or stressing about their kids or such. I’ve realized that my lights don’t come on until I’ve moved the brake pedal a little further, and it’s actually just starting to apply pressure to the brake pads.

I stood on my head and looked under the dash, and I can’t see any adjustments on the switch. Can it be adjusted? It seems to be only mounted to the brake pedal arm. Is it a mercury switch? How is it actuated?

And honestly, I don’t need the answers to all those questions, I just need to know if it can be adjusted and how. Or do I just have to replace it to solve the problem?

Edit/afterthought: sometimes it’s inconsistent, the light will come on early, but most times it comes on slightly after a little pressure is applied to the brake pads

Add a momentary contact push button for your brake lights.

They are funny little switches. There is no adjustment. There is a bushing in the center that may be worn or even missing.

I don’t know if you can see it clearly in the picture, but this is actually an aftermarket windshield washer nozzle that has a light in it. I used to use the old 70s vintage Mopar top of fender indicators, but they have become rare as hens teeth and/or someone wants $1 million for them.

For many years when I wire up my trailer connector, I put a fuse in, so if I lose my trailer lights, I don’t blow all my lights. Then, it’s not real difficult to feed the left and right rear light circuits up through the truck, and under the hood, to feed the indicators. So you’re looking at your own brake lights and turn signals when you step on the brakes. If they go out, you know you’ve blown the fuse.

it’s been a low priority, but I also want to get a scrap windshield washer reservoir and pump, and connect them to these nozzles with the push button on the dash. So if somebody’s in front of me, busting my chops, at least I can make them wet. Think “yellow dye.”

In reality, I can’t believe nobody makes a tiny nice looking top of fender indicator. If I was younger, I’d do it with my Chinese manufacturing guys. I bet we’d sell a million.

Now you need 2 momentary contact push buttons.

Yep. When I was putting the truck back together, I had a bunch of Lincoln town car parts from the late 80s in the shed of miracles. I had to trim a couple vanes off the side of that grill, but it otherwise fit perfect. Then I was inspired and did the Lincoln theme all over it. I call it a “Lincoln all-terrain.” My name for it is the Missing Linc.

If you put that name in the TRS search engine, there is a link about a lot of what I’ve done to it.

Follow up on the fender mounted turn signal indicators, I bought some illuminated license plate bolts, cut the tiniest piece of red lens repair material, and changed them to red. I’m going to use them on the Road Ranger and on Big Red when I get around to it.

This reminds me that once I thought of omitting the washer feature for the windshield. I could install a new washer fluid tank w/pump & hose then run the hose through the FW to the interior. Then I'd add my favorite booze to the tank for a quick squirt/gulp whenever necessary !
