What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I did not but came close. There is a second layer of sheet metal around the perimeter of the roof that is about 2” wide and a bit of an extension in the middle where an over head console would go in an Explorer. I had to make a spacer out of a 2X4 to fill in the gap between the headliner and the roof to support the CB. The spacer fasted to the extension and the radio bracket to the 2X4. The radio doesn’t move.

I’ve used that same lip to mount a Big Sky rifle rack to the ceiling behind the seats as well.

Depending on trim on a first gen you could have a solid steel headliner too. Good for mounting normal console stuff to... probably not great for mounting rifles to.

I’m picturing a half inch tube frame with sheet metal, that spanned the width of the cab, approximately 10-12” front to back, with a top hinged door that’s lockable and has a shock to hold it open.

I think that will be too deep. At least in front of the seats. Build a cardboard mock up and try it before you build the real deal. Sit in the seats and move around to get things off the floor, the glove box, etc. Also, consider traffic lights. Where do you normally see them in the windshield?

There are a few lights, because of their placement in the intersection, that I have to stop short of the intersection with the windshield visor I have on the truck. Kind of an apples to oranges comparison but an example of things to consider before you make blind spots or something you’ll be smacking your head on.

I hadn’t thought about that. Very good point and I’ll definitely use the cardboard idea. I’m only 5’6”, so I don’t anticipate any issues with creating blind spots. I’m gonna double check though lol. I’m wanting to make it just big enough to clear a 30-30 or maybe a scoped .22. If it fits an AR too, that’ll be cool. I’ll post pictures and maybe do a build thread when I start building it.

Also, this truck is my hunting truck, I won’t be DD it or driving it in town much.

Getting back to what this thread was for, I changed out the brake master cylinder today. I have a more consistent peddle and stops so success.

Edit: my brake light that was on dim is out hopefully for good this time.

I also changed out a wiper motor and transmission on the GF's trailblazer. The electronics crapped out so they would do what they wanted and wouldn't shut off. The first part was defective and the wiper arm on the passenger side wouldn't work. We took the Ranger on a test drive up to Bennington VT. to get a replacement and that is all set now. Funny enough the motor and transmission were cheaper than the module on the motor itself.

I replaced the starter, the top mounting bolt came out due to broken threads, than snaped the mounting tab off the starter at the next bolt allowing the end bearing on the bendix to make contact with the flywheel. One longer bolt, the stock bolt only used 1/3 of the threads available, and a 100$ starter that will barely get used untill my 4.0 swap and now shes fixed.

Got a little more done on the red Ranger. Tomorrow should have everything but the transmission squared away

Rolling the 42s out from behind the barn.....

making a better mirror mount for the passenger side of the b2.

Today I cut apart the driver side floor to do the rust repair. I pulled the fender off to get better access to the rotten A pillar. Only to discover one of the previous owners pop riveted the rad support in!

I'm sorry but if I ever see the person who pop riveted in my rad support crooked its instant hands.

Well after i fixed the starter. i took her for a drive. Since my wife and son are at a mommy and me playdate sleep over with her moms group i was free lol. A very nice drive through the hills of Capitol forest took about 3.5 hours, ended up in another county, and took the highway home. There was a hill climb i should have taken a photo of, but i didnt. Had to of been 60+ degree hill, on loose gravel. 2wd just wouldnt do it so i kicked into 4 hi and gave her the skinny peddle, and i shit you not this little 2.3 flew up that hill like a raped ape.
