What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

starting to remove the timing cover on my 2000 ranger leaking antifreeze , did the same thing to my 98 which was running great till we had a wind storm a few years back and a tree fell on it, and totaled it out with only 100,000 on it. didn't have a scratch till then, darn the luck.

Cleaned the snow and ice of the 2019. The 2011 got left at home.

Snagged a decent looking alloy wheel for my spare:

Some more painting, installed gas tank and AN lines. Don't judge my masking skills

took it out for a drive, washed it and topped off the gas tank.

Replaced the vent visor on the passenger side. It was way more work than I expected. The glue from the old one was still strong. I was worried about stretching the weather gasket for the window horribly.

Yesterday I pulled the '90 into the driveway, last snow run the steering wheel migrated almost half a turn... I imagine it's the pinch bolt on one upper ball joint or another but the caster and toe weren't too bad and it actually drove just fine so I just straightened the wheel...

Another thing that happened is my LED driving lights stopped working in the snow, after I pulled the heat shrink at their splices that split between the two and found out those were fine I investigated further, turns out the ground side connected to the battery pinch bolt was 1/2 turn loose...

Anybody know the best way to clean these up? The bullet hole/outlaw aluminum wheels? I’ve got a pile for the projects.

Today I put another coat of silver on the ‘87 steelies. If that coat is even, I’ll start to experiment with accents.

I also mounted the bullet holes on the ‘97 Rick’s Ranger Rig with the new4me tires, ordered the center caps. I put the spare underneath for the first time since I’ve owned it. Checked the brakes - all good - and adjusted the shoes so now I have a parking brake.

Also put the chromed steelies with new4it tires on the ‘93 donar, put in the new $4 radiator plug (literally new, killing my budget!).

I also used the ‘62 Radio Flyer as a color test panel for the Rick-storation. My Dad got me the RF new when I was old enough to pull. I’ll get better pics of the 4-link rear when I do the second coat. Wheels are repro I got in about ‘68

This was Cardinal Red. I think it is too pink/pale. I’d like to match the 96 F250 if possible. I’ll try the Regal Red or Safety Red on the second coat.

Drove the 2019 home. Much less of an adventure this time.

Ambush

You shop junkyards for years and years. You hold off on going for it like a puma waits for the perfect opertune moment to drop on a baby deer. And then one day you find the nastiest rustiest truck you ever did see... with three pretty decent ones.

Or I think @Jim Oaks used a wire wheel on his, they look really sharp.

Too damn funny! Craigslist is my natural habitat, between feedings, I hunt 3-4 times a day. Today I scored a like-new 3-ton long handle, low floor jack and two plastic drive on ramps for $40. Yesterday it was a 300# 32ft aluminum extension ladder for $75.

unfortunately all my outlaw wheels have been old kills by others. Hence the question. & too nice to wire brush, but need more than a good cleaning. How do I strip the plastic coat, and then is there a particular good polish before I re-seal?

(but I do wander off reservation into the three Pull-A-Parts in Hotlanta. I’m planning a safari on Tuesday)

I don't drive my truck in the winter, my saw blades don't have a finish and are just plain aluminum. I just polish them once a year and they stay pretty nice.

first casualty of winter, battery completely gone. had to use my 1976 jumper cables to fire it up for the ride home, fortunately it was only 4 miles.

The battery dying just reminded me to bring my jump pack in and put a solid charge on it.

I just got the Audew 1000A jump starter for the 2011 today. The current jump started with the lead acid battery is dying a slow death and it's time to replace it before I get stuck somewhere with a dead jump starter. I haven't had to use one on one of my vehicles in years but sooner or later.... Now that I've said something, it's probably going to be sooner than later. LOL
