What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Hey it's Sunday. Floyd got to go get coffee with the guys. 37 degrees....so we wimped out and went to Mickyd's instead of the park. They were set up very well for social distancing.

Dropped the tank, removed 4cyl trans n exhaust. Found this gem, a nail holding fuel line on

I used the Ranger to go to Menards and get wood to make a manger for my wife and mother in law. then used the tailgate for a workbench to build said mangers

AJ

I’ve used many a tailgate as my workbench. The fanciest thing I built on a tailgate was a custom corner shelf cabinet so I could add electrical switches and outlets to a kitchen island.

Took a stab at resolving the water leak in the 92 today. Popped the windshield trim loose to find that someone before me had put at least a full tube of silicone in the top and sides. Of course, it was nearly all loose over rust. Ripped all of that out, trimmed back some of the windshield adhesive, cleaned as much rust as I could out, primed and painted, then worked a little bit of roofing/flashing urethane around the windshield adhesive. Really needed to pull the windshield and do the repairs right, but if this holds till spring when I can take the time to do it right, I’ll be happy

Pulled the chrome tow rated bumper. Just not the look I'm going for. I wire wheeled, sanded and re finnished the tube bumper with receiver hitch from my original 83 ranger. Still need to work on adding additional mounting tabs that I ended up grinding off. It was welded to the other truck. Used garden edging to clean up the look under the tail gate, added new license plate mounting location, with two new lights, no non iluminated plate tickets for me lol.

Ranger Danger.... in the Manger... and to your bed, you will be a Stranger.... ;)

Prepped it for the 1,000 mile drive home on Wednesday. Got about 26mpg on the way down, curious to see if having the cap on helps or hurts mileage going home. Should be alot more aerodynamic than having a big ladder rack with PVC pipes on it, but it does weigh a ton.

You left the rack there or is it disassembled in the bed?

Now how the heak could I put a cap on over top of a ladder rack....

I gave it to my brother in law to deal with. I got enough junk to bring home and am too lazy to be switching between a ladder rack and cap.

Ive never noticed a fuel economy gain / loss due to a cap or the removal of one, does ride better though and the back end feels more planted. While its nice to keep things dry and out of sight, it is a pain when you have to remove it to go fill a 55 gallon drum of fuel (or some other large object) that the cap cant be on for.

Once I get it back home I plan to take it off and only put it on when I go camping. It's nice not worrying about crap blowing out or getting wet but like you said, it severely limits what you can put in the bed.

What other large object would you fill with fuel?
