I'm not going to start a poll, because there may be a tire out there I'm not aware of or have forgotten. I've used BFGoodrich mud terrains on my Ranger, and Cooper SST Pro's on my Super Duty.

I'm not sure what I'm going to sport on the rebuild of TRS-2. It may come down to what I can get the best deal on. But I wanted to see what you guys are using, and see if there's a tire that stands out from the rest. Feel free to share a photo.
 
Have you looked at Treadwright's offerings? I can't remember which, but their mud terrain designs have the same pattern as popular name brand tires. Could save you a few hundred bucks.

Edit - I think the 'Guard Dog' design is roughly a Wrangler MT/R. The 'Claw II' is the more aggressive design, not sure what it's similar to.

Those are good prices, but the tread patterns available are very limited by the size you choose.

I have Firestone Destination MT's. About like skis in the winter but ok otherwise.

They have a new pattern out though.

My all time favorite tire was the BFG MT pattern they made for the Jeep Rubicon, they are very limited on sizes though.

Dunlop Mud Rovers were decent but it sounded about like a Jetsons car going down the highway.
 
I have Treadwrights on my current truck. They are good tread. And cheap. I like them a lot. They say "THE CLAW" on them.

They have a bunch of cheap mud tires on Ebay from China or something. I had them on my Ranger. I would have put them on me new truck but I found the recycled Treadwrights and wanted to give that a go. These were called ROAD WARRIOR ARDENT and were very heavy and aggressive.

Goodyear MTR, the new Kevlar ones. They are the shit, love 'em. Super thick sidewalls was #1 on my want list and these have them.

Treadwrights used to be made about 50 miles from here. I actually toured their facility at one point. They are good for what they are but NOT for certain applications! I know a person who peeled the tread right off a set of four, all four, in less than one day in the rocks. They are not, not, NOT a wheeling tire.
 
I think they used to just be retread tires. I have full confidence in mine. Hours of towing a 6,000# trailer on the interstate in the summer; have about 10,000 miles on them and spent a day at Attica Badlands in the rock quarry. Not beating the truck but we did at least 20 climbs with it. I'd take these anywhere.
 
I had 33in treadwrights on my Expedition. They were A/Ts with EXACTLY the same tread pattern as a BFG A/T. Ran the piss out of them without issue.

If you go "new", the BFG M/Ts cant be beat
 
If you want a really aggressive mud tire then look at the Wide mudder. Best tire I have ran and never got stuck with them. I think they are better than boggers. Or swamper tsl

How do these tires hold up to highway use?
 
I've been running BFG MT's on my Ranger for the last 8 years, been very happy with the performance, got the new set siped when they were new and have worked very well...

Am very interested in the last set posted... at some point hopefully within about a year I'll be building the Explorer for 36-40" tires so it'll need something worthy :)
 
Grip spur wide mudder(or old buckshots) are gonna wear out around 50k with rotations. I've heard of longer though with mainly off road use. Hell I know for a fact someone had a set that weren't worn out but dry rotted so bad he had to take them off.My buddy ran a set of wide mudders on his yota. The middle tread was almost smooth but the lugs were still deep on the sides. I ran them on my blazer and sold it with them on there 2 years later. Still pulled through mud like a beast. I seriously love those freaking tires. Tsl's will get you around 30k. One factor to keep in mind is that these aggressive tires are hard to balance.

on 1 ton diesel trucks the bucks or tsl..... they get about 15-20 k miles useable rotating them with oil changes...or 2-3 months...which is mud season. nobody is using them because of cupping howl and balance issues. limited size being the bigger thing as most trucks are 17-20 in wheels now.. guys with older trucks run them(pipeliners).


on smaller trucks like mine...i have run 20 year old gumbos...but you dont put many road miles on thse square mother mudders.

50 k miles....cant say i have seen or heard of that on vehicles that tow or drive 50k yr.



the nitto would be the ideal tire. i would like a set of 40's for my truck if i go to a duramax. otherwise 35-37....they balance and ride awesome.
