What brand and weight oil do you use?

I had to stop at Wally World today. I was going to grab oil and a Motorcraft filter... they were out. I tried Walmart dot com... wouldn't even let me order it online. Might be they aren't going to stock it any longer?

Wow, I didn't expect so many that like Penzoil. I used it in my Goldwing and it made the clutch slip because it has a addictive in to make to make it work better that screws up wet clutches that motorcycle have. I like the cheaper ones too. Thanks for the input I'll keep checking this and decide what oil I should use.

Thing is, I've known forever not to use automotive oil in motorcycles, because of the clutch. Motorcycle oil has a different rating than auto oil. SG I think. I'll have to go look out in the garage here in a bit. Anyway, cycle oil has zinc in it, for the clutch, where auto oil does not. I have two bikes, both late model Suzukis, and they get nothing but Suzuki's own 20w-50 full synthetic.

Just as an aside, I've run nothing but 20w-50 in my 98 3.0 Ranger for 21 years. I run Valvoline Max Life currently. But man, most stores don't even stock 20w-50 these days. I'll start using cycle oil in it if I have to. There will always be 20w-50 cycle oil.

I haven't been in a Wally World for so long, It matters not to me what they stock.

There are a couple of relevant things for wet clutches. The one that sticks out at me is the JASO-MA rating, but you may be right about looking for SG as well.

I have actual numbers and proof for this!

The bulk STP boxes from Autozone! If you look it actually has a really good additive package. My father's Tundra made it over 350k before the second frame snapped in half. He started using STP at ~300k. We have the commercial account so its $12 a gallon.

I heard even Wally World carries motorcycle specific oil. I know it costs more, but I usually just but it at my local Suzuki dealer, as they are closer than some of the other places that sell cycle oil.

The last time I was in Auto Zone, I actually found a five quart bottle of STP 20w-50. Bought three of them.

For what it's worth, Rotella T6 does (or at least used to, I haven't checked in a while) carry the appropriate wet clutch ratings and works great with them.

I should have said I have a 77 Kawasaki 1000 , that is what I tried synthetic oil in and had to get a valve job after only a couple years so I have been using penzoil 10 -40 ever since. I got a 90 Goldwing and used the penzoil 10-40 in it and the clutch started slipping after 6 or 7 years . I'm thinking I might have used 10-30 one or two years and that's why it started slipping. I didn't know about the additive until I googled the slipping clutch on the Goldwing.
