What brand and weight oil do you use?

I'm going to put a remanufactered motor in my 04 FX4. I used to like Penzoil but I have heard some questionable things about it so I decided to switch and can't decide which one to try. They require regular oil fir the break in so I can't use synthetic. I had a bad experience with synthetic oil several years ago so I'm skeptical about using a synthetic now.

I use Quaker State 10w-30 in pretty much anything that uses motor oil, and is over 10 years old
Never had any "motor oil" related issues so can't say if its good or bad, but can say I have no complaints, after 40+ years

Never used a full synthetic oil but do read that these are good

On newer vehicles, still under warranty, I would stick with Engine makers recommendation, but would try to use Quaker State brand as available, just one of those things for me, lol
I like Ford trucks but do not like Ford cars
I like Chevy cars but do not like Chevy trucks
Just preference's

Quaker State is a lower price oil now made by Shell but different formula than Pennzoil, their more premium brand
Cheap is another preference

Everything I own gets Pennzoil ultra platinum. It's always on sale on amazon for $20 bucks for a 5 quart jug. But it doesn't freaking matter. Everyone has their own brand, I buy Pennzoil cause its cheap for a full synthetic. Whatever you use, change it regularly and you'll be fine.

After some fairly extensive reading on bobistheoilguy.com I decided to just use the Walmart brand full synthetic. Its good stuff, and it costs about the same as brand name "regular" oil. I always use 5W30 in the 4.0 engine.

Whatever brand come with an oil filer at the parts store when I go. Usualy Penzoil or Valvoline, sometimes mobile one, semi synthetic 5w-30, with a purolator filter.

The last few years I've just bought Motorcraft synthetic blend 5w30 and a Motorcraft filter from Wally World. Usually less then $25...

Motorcraft, Valvoline(including Napa and Carquest branded), or Mobil. I use the recommended viscosity. I switched my Mustang to Mobil 1 because I'd wear out the thrust face of my main bearings every couple of summers drag racing with a Center Force Dual Friction clutch. Don't like Oilzum, Amalie, or Quaker State and refuse to buy Pennzoil because they own Jiffy Lube.

Wow, I didn't expect so many that like Penzoil. I used it in my Goldwing and it made the clutch slip because it has a addictive in to make to make it work better that screws up wet clutches that motorcycle have. I like the cheaper ones too. Thanks for the input I'll keep checking this and decide what oil I should use.

I use Valvoline regular 10W-30 here in So-Cal. Where you're at I'd suggest 5W-30 (for sure in winter anyway).

Nothing at all wrong with synthetic, but I've heard that if your engine seals are weak to begin with, switching to synthetic can cause them to start leaking (something about it cleans old residue off them that was holding them from leaking... Not sure that I buy that, but maybe the rubber shrinks just ever so slightly ). I've not experienced this myself though.

If you have a wet clutch, you must not use oil that has the round starburst seal on the bottle that says "For gasoline engines", this indicates the presence of additives that screw up wet clutches (BTDT with the Honda 200X ATC I had years ago). Most 10W-40 and 20W-50 oils are OK (at least in the past they were, I haven't bought those weights for some years now). There are also motorcycle oils available that are formulated for wet clutches, though they tend to cost a premium.
