My 4x4 4.0 5spd 93 ford ranger transmission just recently went out and all i can seem to find are 2.9 trans that are 4x4 5spd will this hook up in the position of the 4.0 trans?
What 5spd trans will hook to a 4.0?

The 2.9 will work for you. Check your other thread as you have more answers there. If you are having problems finding a transmission I have 2 that have been rebuilt for sale if you would want to drive a bit to come get it.

look for a 91-92 truck with a 2.9 if possible, they will have the m50d like the 4.0 had but with lower gears 1-3.
