The last few days my truck started to jurk when i was driving it. I removed the rear drums and cleaned them and it seemed to fix it for a little. Tonight when i was on my way home from work i hurd a sqeek comming from the rear. when i got out of the truck both drums were cool so i checked the diff and it was hot. I pulled the plug to check and it was a quart down. I havnt seen any leaks anyware and the breaks dont seem to drag. Does this sound like what i am thinking and i need new gears.

was the jerking only when you pressed down on the brake pedal? because if it was it could possibly be contaminated drums. when you pulled the drums off did the brake shoes look wet or anything. because the axle seals possibly could be leaking and causing the rear-end fluid lose and also the drums if contaminated could temporarily be sticking when the brakes are applied cause the jerking.

Usually it does it when i am letting off the gas. It does do it when i am just cruzing though. When i pulled the drums things looked damp but i just figured it was the snow and salt crap on the roads here.

take a close look at the axle seals. that oil had to go some where.

pull the diff cover and take a look at the gears. if your not sure what your looking at take some pictures and post them up.
