I went to radioshack today and they got magnetic antennas and i was wonderin if there was a different way to run the wire to the cb without goin threw the door jam.

under your drivers seat there is a rubber grommet thats where i ran mine go under the truck and look

not the best pic but you can see where mine is

if i can do that then i should probable get a regular antenna and mount it behind the cab on the bed rail........100th post :headbang:

You should do that anyway, magnetic antennas aren't the best...

yeah, thats what ive been readin i think i found a good buy online.
its got a 4' firestik, 3-way chrome mounting bracket, 18-foot fire-flex coax cable, stainless steel antenna spring, and a microphone hanger all for 49.99

i use a magnetic ant. and get 20 miles on my cb alone.. you should have that grommet my buddies 93 does

Magnet mount antennas do work fine, though if you're open to permanently installing it, I'd say do that simply because you lessen the chance of it falling off or getting stolen.

FWIW, the forward bedrail works great with a full-length whip (96-102"). Shorter antennas don't work so well though because the cab blocks too much of it (they'd be fine on the bedrail back by the tailgate however).

Short antennas can easily be mounted to the roof center with a 25 dollar ball swivel mount. Just be sure to measure twice, cut once, and use RTV to ensure a good seal.
