Well this sucks!

Thanks as always Mike.

Well here I am again.

I went and traded the master cylinder in and got two calipers in exchange at the parts store. I also tried to find a plug for the brake lines, but seems they screw onto the caliper with a bolt, so I didn't think there was any good way to plug them.

I checked over the rubber hoses. Although somewhat nasty looking, they seemed to be fine. I pushed the pedal and held it there with a 2x4 and looked for bulges.. Nothing.

Great. I put both calipers on, bled the brakes and nothings changed.

At this point I am ready to drive it to the junkyard and leave the keys!

I am out $60 bucks in calipers and the problem has not gotten any better.

I can't do this anymore.. I am taking it to the brake shop tomorrow. I need it, the F-250 is killing me. Spent $65 to fill it Monday and it is on 1/2 tank already. I think running the hubs locked and occasional 4wd might be making the mileage worse (we got 4 inches of snow this morning) but I still cannot afford to keep filling it up!

Well I got it back. They only had it about 2 hours, but I had to wait until I got off work to pick it up. They told me one of the pads on the front was not seated properly. However, I had just installed the calipers new last night. So either bleeding them once I installed them or the new rotors helped. Cause I know the pad was not on there wrong for long.

The brakes work much better. I have a lot more stopping power. I think bleeding the rears and stuff really got out all the old fluid.

However, the pedal still travels quite a ways before they brakes kick in. Is this just an RBV thing?

I would say it travels close to if not halfway before I get any 'real' stopping power?

I am just looking for input, I am not going to try and fix it anymore. Just want to know if anyone else's brakes are like this?

Rear brakes are adjusted up? Also the rotors aren't under spec now that they've been machined are they?

I've always noticed my ranger has had quite a bit of pedal travel even with properly adjusted brakes compared to other vehicles.

Now that I have a couple days in I notice the truck stops MUCH better and the pedal only travels about an inch before it starts stopping hard. Much better than before. I guess I am just used to other vehicles, but as long as she stops, I am fine.

Thanks
