Well, it finally pissed me off!

It's a Duratech. That line means he doesn't have a SHO.

Then he dodged a bullet, the V8 SHO's were garbage (google SHO cam failure) Only came with auto, and aren't all that fast. It was the V6 SHO's that were the shit!:headbang: People confuse the Duratec with the SHO w/manual trans,(V6 SHO's w/ auto was a 3.2, same hp, but 15 more ft lbs tq) yes, both we DOHC 3.0's but the SHO used a timing belt and was 220 hp, the Duratec uses a chain and has 200-240 horses.

I got rid of a set of 7500 mile-old GAs on my 98 JettaGLX because they scared the absolute SHIT out of me in the rain to the point where I wouldn't drive the car when the weather called for precip. First sign of water on the pavement, these things were sliding all over like I was on ice. A lot of A3-series VW owners ditched the GAs on their cars for the same reason.

These tires were takeoffs from a friends VR6 for the same reason, the Escort is neither heavy enough or powerful enough to come anywhere close to taxing the traction of those tires under any conditions I could ever find.

this tells me one thing... VW spec'ed tires that were too small for the car.

The SHO V8s weren't that bad, if you took are of them.

Not too small - too poorly chosen. Stock size was 205-50-15, and that is the same size I replaced them with. Went from GAs to Dunlop SP8000s, and the scary factor instantly disappeared because the tires actually stuck to the ground instead of taking the car surfing every time somebody spit on the road. That tells me they went for cushy ride instead of actual performance when they were spec-ing out the rubber for that car.

For the record, that was the last set of Goodyear tires I have owned - for any of my vehicles.

i don't follow where 'wrong tire for the car' justifies shunning an entire brand, unless there's something you left out.

You are talking to a guy who willingly put Dun Lop vibrators.... I mean tires, on his car. Don't bother talking about quality rubber.
