well heres the plan..

If I remember correctly a 31 spline 8.8 should handle a stock 302. But a 9" isn't a bad idea either.

Well my funding for this venture is up in the air. I am trying to update my cardomain profile but afghan internet is only so fast.. I know I am one of the lucky ones that at least have it.

Hopefully you're in bagram, the rest of the country sucks.

This is of course my opinion but you should definitely go solid axle! If you're gonna be spending the cash you might as well do it right :) Not to get in a big argument with everyone else, but you should check out all of the larger solid axle swaps on here. Sure, the Dana 30 or 35 "might" be strong enough, but if you're gonna be spending those amounts and doing that much work you might as well go big or go home. What is this garbage about "strong enough?" You want it overly strong :)

A few builds to check out: Josh40601, Bray D, PlumCrazy, Wahlstrom1 and a few others. All very awesome.

(Now I'll duck for cover as I receive flak for that response)

I was thinking of putting in a T-19 manual transmission if I were gonna do the V8 swap. It's only a 4 speed without an overdrive though. They came in the F-150's. And I figured I'd keep whatever transfer case came with it.

I think everyone should spend at least one tour at Kandahar, just so they'd appreciate being back home a helluva lot more. Hahaha. That was the worst place I've ever been to.

USM, I'll take your word for that tyvm :) I enlisted back in 2004, changed my mind and did ROTC and the Simultaneous Membership Program in 2006, then broke my back and that was it for the military. Now looking back I'm very happy I was never deployed. Thank you for your service!

A few of our guys went down there, ( Kandahar) said it was ALOT of FUN! You know what I mean.

Well that is true however I dont want it to look to far from stock. Dont want it looking to crazy.

Well almost been a year and still no motor in it, damn I miss driving it. Time to start again.

A 31-spline 8.8 is actually stronger than a 9" and easier to put in. If you don't plan on constantly changing gear ratios and Explorer rear would be the way to go. Then you can get 4-wheel disc brakes too.
