well..... 20 today.....

Pick up a trade. If your looking at construction, plumbing is about the highest paid trade other then elevator installers. Most states it is a 3-5 year apprenticeship. Plumbing is just about always in demand. I know most are against it, but I would suggest going and talking to a local union rep. The unions may not be what they used to be, but they still get you the best work and the best money. Join, serve a 5 year apprenticeship, and get a journeymans card and make $70,000 a year. Its what I did when I was 17, now I am 22 and own my own home and make more money then most people I know. Just a suggestion.

Happy Birthday man! Of course you feel that way when your 20... because you still can't legally do everything... heck you can't really do everything until your 24 (then you can rent cars... lol)

No but that does suck, I think your family doesn't mind so much as long as you are trying to find a job... My suggestion is to start looking at government and city jobs... go to your local city website and look at the jobs or some government agency. I guarantee they will probably be hiring students for all the stupid little jobs that they just don't want to do. I just got hired on with FAA to do brush cutting at random sites that are getting over grown.

Also construction jobs are a good place to look as well.

What did you expect to accomplish by 20? Unless you are some type of prodigy I wouldn't think much. You can't even get a degree worth having by then. I said that for a reason. Nowadays you need one to have a good chance of making it. Granted you will find 2 or 3 guys that got great jobs without one but you already know the chances are slim.

Yeah man, don't feel too down about it. You are just getting started. Keep looking for a job, look into some college classes (I can count on one hand the number of parents I've come across that mind having a kid who says "I want to go to college"), and if all else fails go buy the book "What Color Is Your Parachute" and read the whole thing, then do it.

I mean really, what did you hope to have accomplished by 20. You spent 3 years of it unable to do just about anything, then another 4 to 6 unable to do most of it by your self, you have spent (I hope) about 12 of it just learning the basics you need to survive. I've known a lot of people who "accomplished something" by age 20. Every last one of them managed ruin their future by either getting pregnant or arrested for drugs/alcohol. The people I grew up with who did have their heads on straight are now 24 or 25 and we are just starting to do anything with our lives.

Give it another 20 years man. If you still have no job, no money, no prospects, no education, and are living at home with mom and dad and none of that is related to failed business ventures, getting laid off (not fired), or badly maimed (like straycat), then you can consider yourself a failure.

BTW....Happy Birthday man.

im in bc i can do everything legally at 19, drink, smoke, porn all the fun stuff, but no ive been working since i was 16 this is the first time i havent worked since i was 16 and as of today its been a year without a job, and im on my third time moving back to my parents so it sucks but yea it cant get worse

I turned 48 on the 3rd and having trouble staying working too.Do heavy equipment for a living nothing happening. What work I do find is with my class A.Twenty only feels like a long time when your twenty your frustration is unsatisfied ambition there's always a bright future for an ambitious young man.

Don't worry you're not alone, I'm 20 and in the exact same situation.

What you can legally do means nothing. I could barely afford food at 20. Now I don't even have to ask how much things cost.

Happy B-Day Pup. Keep your head up. You never know whats round the bend.
Your way to young to be having a crisis about not having a job just yet. One's comming soon. The magic 8 ball just told me so. Good luck.

1. Happy Birthday

2. Your parents don't mind your being there as long as you're respectful, help with things and behave like you should.

3. Don't worry about being 20 and out of work. You'll find some soon enough. Until then, help around the house, mow the grass, take out the trash, clean the garage, etc. The stuff mom and dad can't seem to get to because there's not enough hours in the week.

That will show them that you care about them and their needs, and you aren't there to be a burden. And as far as that goes, I'm pretty certain they don't see you as one. Most parents don't.

Happy Birthday! All I can say is to stay positive and keep hoping and praying, something will turn up eventually.

Happy birthday - 20 is kind of a weird age. I was kind of in a rut when I was 20; hadn't done well in (4-year) college so I went back to junior college and got my act together. Pretty soon things started to click and I figured out where I really wanted to be. A few years later my world was 180 degrees from where it was at 20. Hang in there!

the upside is.... at least i can go up to the bar tonight and drink for free :P

I notice this drinking theme in most threads like this. Where people get down on themselves.
