Welding TTB???

So i havent been fortunate enough to own the 4x4 ranger yet, just teh twd, But I wondering is it possible or even practical to weld the ttb in a solid type axle?

Im hoping to get a 4x4 one day and looking at some inexpensive modification options till i can afford quality.

You mean weld the beams together to make a 'solid axle' ?

You could..but it would be less work to actually swap in say, a D44 or D30

well you would have to remove the drop brackets, and then welding the beams together probably wouldnt last a whole long time

Why?
If you want a solid axle, swap in a solid axle... real easy. D44s and (especially) D30s are dirt cheap.

Trying to weld a TTB into one is just hack (and a waste of a good TTB).

I forgot about the drop brackets, I was trying to figure out how a welded ttb was any differnent than a solid axle in movement. Thanks

I was thinking of sumthin I could do that would be better than ttb but cheaper than sas. At least for a little while, few months or so. But if its that much trouble I guess its a bad idea.

you would have to keep the pivot bushings in the same location so you could actually articulate instead of making a giant sway bar, then you would have to make up a trac bar... like everyone else has said, could be done, but how worth it is up to you...

i seriously think you could do a sas for 500 bucks or less even with having to buy the axle and a new set of front gears, cause i know other than buying the axle itself basically everything i used was stock ford parts and im clearing 34s and it flexes great

stranger has a d50 TTB welded into a solid axle with a 1 link and transverse mono leaf in his massive ranger.

But yea its a lot of work and not really worth it in the end.

Maybe with your elementary welding skills....

yeah i remember that post boggin had a few weeks ago asking for advise on how to weld after trying maybe a hundred times to arc weld aluminum....didnt know that was possible just kidding boggin

Why weld the TTB together? It's an awesome axle as it is.
