My 220 Lincoln mig hands down, very versatile machine. I can weld up to 1/2" steel with it which is more than enough for a home welder, and I can run an aluminum spool gun on it.

ranken had us learn oxy, then smaw, then gmaw then finally gtaw. only thing i hated doing was tig with stainless, only because it was tough to weld. i loved aluminum though

MIG + amature skillz = cold weld = no penetration = FAIL

MIG is the easiest to weld, but also the easiest to have a poor weld.

I like my 7018, 3/32 stick. What a versatile weapon.

IF you do, (which I did, for a afternoon) Drink LOTS of milk. It does a very good job of neutralizing the galvanizing chemicals. (zinc)

Forgot about the milk part. I know if ya skin your knuckles on it, don't let it go thinking it'll scab over, because it won't. Zinc's an anticoagulant, gotta scrub it out with iodine or equivilant. Otherwise it'll ooze for hours, as I know from experience.

I know I left out a few, but I'm only collecting information on these three.

Its because were learning how to weld and my teacher said everyone hates MIG welding, and that stick was easy. :D

any idiot can mig weld. But to be able to stick weld is an art.

bullshit. any idiot cannot just weld 20 guage with a MIG until they get a good bit of instruction and experience. I'm the idiot that proved that for some time.

Seems like TIG could be cool....seems like electric arc soldering (though I haven't tried it).

I think he was being generic, not talking about such thin sheet metal, which is a lot tougher.:icon_twisted:

From what very little I've seen of TIG, it looked a little like oxy, only with a variable arc instead of a flame. Your right though, always looked like fun.

MIG welding stuff that thin requires impeccable fitup IME, and still can only be skip welded....and weaving the torch is prohibited unless you like blowing holes in it.

BTW....nice avatar, BlackBII

i prefer GTAW, its the cleanest and you have full control during the process. i learned on a stick welder and found no use for it besides heavy material or out in the feild and mig is great for fabbing something quick, fast and in a hurry. GTAW has been said to be the strongest and requires the most practice and technique. n e one can do all of these with the right amount of practice.

GTAW takes my vote!

I agree, I've done a lot of the BS thin sheet welding

Thank you.

Wanye Fawkin Static is the Shiz!:headbang:

I would say tig if i had one. But all i use at home is SMAW (stick). A 20+ year old Miller Thunderbolt 220. Great welder. does everything i need (at home)

Stick is funner in my opinion

what he said is right, and i can only mig weld
but its so easy and cheap to do, i like mig!

I'm no (real) welder, but I'd say it depends on what you're welding. But kudos to the oxy/ace guy. If thats your prefered method I'm impressed.
