I have a 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0 automatic with the a4ld. It recently started making a grinding noise when moving above 10 mph. It doesn't always do it, comes and go's and usually only when warmed up. Keeps doing it if you shift into neutral. Also have codes 629 and 566, torque convertor clutch solenoid and 3/4 shift solenoid.

Also it won't shift into overdrive/4th gear

Does the grinding seems to follow rolling speed or engine speed?

Wonder if the OD drum got chewed up… that would be a bummer.

What does the transmission fluid look like? Is it bright red or dark? Any glitter on it? Does it smell like burnt popcorn?
