I have a 1986 Ford Ranger 2wd. Last week, I started my truck up after work and it sounded like a diesel and it had NO power. It would die a couple of times and was very hard to start after that. I work at a GM dealership where neither I nor anyone else here really knows a whole lot about Fords... but we were able to narrow down the problem. We hooked the truck up to a Fuel System Cleaner to check if the fuel system was the concern, but the problem didn't go away. I did a block test to see it the heads were cracked (heard that was pretty common) and it checked out ok. We thought it might be a timming problem, but it idles ok and it doesn't rev up at all. We also did an exhoust back pressure test - came up clean there too... SOMEONE HELP!!!

FPR, Fuel Pressure Regulator. Take the vacuum line off the top and see if gas it coming out. If so that's your problem.

Oh yea, i forgot to note that i did that too...checked out good of course. I ended up taking the distributor apart to see if everything was kosher under there. I found the reluctor inside the distributor was no longer splined to the shaft. It was pretty much firing whenever it wanted to. Thanks for the help though!

So did that fix it? Or is that just what you think it is?
