..Where'd the water outlet gasket go? I RTV'd it when I reinstalled it, but what's up with not being able to find a replacement or even a mention of the part?

Not the thermostat split o-ring, but the actual outlet had a flat gasket with holes in it for the three bolts, I remember peeling that bad boy off and cleaning it.

Just obsolete, or am I delusional?

please clarify

is this on the water pump??? or on the area associated with the thermostat and neck to attach the upper radiator hose??

This one. Heh. I had to scrap a flat gasket off it, as well as remove the old thermostat's rubber seal, but when I replaced it, I just had the thermostat seal - so I RTV'd around the outlet bolts to make sure it sealed up nice and snug.
The water pump had a gasket all right, or else I'd have been really puzzled...

Gasket is not needed...only the thermostat rubber seal. Just have to make sure the aluminum isn't too pitted. If so, then a little RTV smeared on the boss should do the trick.
