water leaking onto drivers floor???

I have been having a problem with water leaking. Every time it rains, it leaks. I have had to remove a large chunk of carpet because I just could not get it dry.

I also started pulling off plastic trim in the area... and it appears to be leaking from where some wires are coming into the cab right by the ebrake pedal? I can feel water on the backside of the wires if I grab them...



Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what needs fixing/sealing/whatever to stop this leak?

My ’88 Ranger had a leak in that general area.
I ended up pulling the windshield trim and found that the lower part of the windshield mounting area was rusted out; just a small hole but enough.
I took some windshield adhesive and filled the area up and pushed the trim back on, let it set for a few hours and wham bam no leak.

The best way would be to replace the rotted metal BUT it doesn’t leak now !

I used to call my firewall a water wall...it would leak everywhere...changed cabs eventually, but you might want to inspect the drain area under the windshield...they are notorious for rotting out...can be fixed, but it is a hard area to get at and usually requires tearing out the dash...not a big job on the older Rangers...just time consuming...

Mine leaks on both sides. I just got use to having no carpet in the truck and to learn to live with it.

That looks like the PWL door wiring. There should be a grommet or seal on the outside that may have failed as well as the other suggestions offered.

The wires head backwards, along the floor towards the back of the vehicle. I was thinking RABS? Isn't that behind the drivers seat kinda behind the seatbelt?

It does have power windows/locks, but I can see a group of wires running from the edge of door towards the front of the car, inside the fender, so I suspect they are power windows/locks...?

I was planning on removing the whole carpet anyways, because its going to get wet offroad anyways. If I dont do it on purpose crossing a river or something, I'll do it on accident in a mud hole that looks much smaller than it ends up being... That part I am not so concerned about, I took an exacto knife to the drivers front to get rid of the wet carpet there so it wouldn't cause a rust and mold issue on me.

I just wanna figure out where the leak is because otherwise there is a puddle there every time it rains.

It looks like mine..I have both sides leaking too. Mine is from within the cowl. The only fix for mine is to pull the dash...

..But right now it's on daily driver duty so in a few years, when I have more time with it, I'll address it. For now, It sits in the garage when I'm not driving to work.

You can always cover the cowl opening. It's only real purpose is fresh air entry and it actually gets plenty of that from the sides. Covering the cowl opening also keeps the crud and salt out of that area...I've been meaning to do that to mine...or maybe put some of those scoops over it to limit the water that can enter that area...

Another one of Ford's better ideas that could have been improved upon in production...

Good Point. I thought about it but I didn't know how to cover it up cleanly. I cut out a square of sheet metal, cut it into three pieces and put it up underneath the grill of the cowl. It was a pain and when I got it all up there (with help from magnets, holding the metal for me to the grill) I realized that there werent many options other that something hideous like some kind of caulking to hold it all together.

Yeah, that's probably why I haven't covered mine up yet...

I bought a new 1984 Skoda (yes) and it had an optional cowl scoop cover that I bought...can't remember how they actually held in place but they stayed on till I sold the sucker to a sucker, er, enthusiast...

It was a good little car for the most part...but clutch went on me twice...and the carb had issues...drove it for six years...
