Proof? Here are just a few verses: 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Peter 1:20-21 Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophets own understanding or from human inititive. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 And we so too constantly thank God that you recieved God's message that you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human message, but as it truly is,God's message, which is at work among you who believe. There are other verses also,if you want to see them....do a search. As far as "proof" all I can say is that the Bible has done every single thing it has said it would do in my life as long I did what it told me to do. To have "proof" does away with faith, people are saved by faith. God through Jesus has done things in my life and changed me in ways I could never do on my own. If you knew me or what I had been involved in you might agree. Here is just one page.... www.bible.org/seriespage/bible-written-word-god

Again, you're quoting stuff out of the bible. It's not a relative answer for the question I asked.

To have proof does away with faith...like I already said. I don't need proof because I know it is true, again, like I already said....I know it's true because the bible has done every single thing it says it will do as long as I do what it tells me to do. Prove it wrong....search for evidence yourself, not from others opinions but from history. Some proof can be found in what the bible has said would happen and has happened just as it said it would....an example is Israel being a nation again after 1879 years...that has never happened with any other nation.

To have proof does away with faith...

Ok, so, out of this statement what i'm understanding is that you have faith in something you don't know exists because you can't prove or deny it's existence? So does that mean if I proved you wrong you would lose faith?

I'm not knocking your religion or belief system but I can't understand why so many people would believe in something they don't know exists without complete proof.

i totally agree. but some people will never use the Bible as proof. some people you can try to save and they will still never listen.

but seriously, why is this thread still happening? its just turned in to almost an arguement-- people that believe the Bible and believe what is said in it vs people that don't believe it and never will.. its sad.

I was looking at it from more of a debate/discussion stand point but i'm usually pretty blunt and come off as a dick about things. I was just curious as to what made y'all believe what you believe versus myself. I'm usually an individual that has to see proof of something to believe it.

I used to be really religious, not so much anymore. For what it's worth, here's my take on faith. It's like love. You can't smell, touch, eat or taste it - but you know when it's there. I've got no doubt about my wife's love for me or mine for her but you could never prove it. You could only prove against it if I went all Tiger Woods on her or something.

LOL......you remind me of me.....that's the catch with christianity--you have to believe what you don't see in order to receive the benefit of seeing the hidden things.

I think Robert's analogy put it into perspective for me.:icon_thumby:

You mean...you'd let her...clean your balls or kiss them for luck?

Ah...these are both good examples...as is people buying tickets for lotteries...you know the money is there...you know you have special numbers that you like to play...and you know someone HAS to win it eventually...

Hmmmm...maybe not...that would be like believing that God rolls dice...or something like that...

The thing is that with the faith God has given me...I do know without a doubt He is real and that nothing can or will ever be shown me that will cause me to lose that faith. When one gets saved the bible says that they, receive a "measure of faith",after that it is up to the individual to cause it to grow by reading/hearing the word of God and putting it into practice. That's what the verse means that says,"Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God". Church history says that the disciple John was dipped in boiling oil in an effort to force him to recant...that is admit that what he saw and believed about Jesus was a lie....even an insane pathological liar would admit he was lying while being dipped in boiling oil. The other disciples where also put to horrible deaths...not one changed his story. I believe John was the only one who died of old age (being burned didn't kill him)

Think about that.....isn't it amazing what healthy men will do to old men who wouldn't "hurt a fly"! Since when is an old worn out dude so dangerous that he needs to be tortured because he tells others about Jesus Christ....(and you have to remember...the earliest christians refused to bear arms because they didn't want a violent revolution to take place in order for christianity to be "Installed" as the chosen religion. Therefore, early christians were NO physical threat to Rome or to the Jewish Synagogue.

It's easy to see why it's so infuriating, especially how easy it is to make a joke about it . . . hell, even I did it because it was just too easy. The trouble is, for most atheists, see the lot of them all as potentially 'jokable' if so many of these people didn't have power. What has irritated me more than the fact that these idiots or select evangelists are allowed to fleece the public in a way that's so obviously created by either senile believers or outright charlatans is the fact that the media makes far too clear distinctions between the 'mainstream' or 'legitimate' religions and these 'crazy' people that are creating definite dates, despite the clear irony of it all.

Millions of the 'legitimate' believers also believe at some point it will happen, and many at least think it will occur in their lifetime, but are careful to draw the clear line that it's 'crazy' to assume that you can know the exact date, because know one can know what God is going to do. It's like a drunk calling a drug addict 'self-destructive'.

This thread was only here to begin with to poke fun at this whole bunch of nonsense. The despair of some that have been left in the wake of those that did give away all their savings, their houses and cars, including money they had been saving for their children's education...... that's what is the sadest part of all of this.

I see proof of a God every time I go outside, there is no way evolution could make a world so complex and beautiful.......

Also countless prayers of mine have been answered

Mine too!!! Just when you think the world is bad...some good comes along. One day many years ago I was on TDY from Coronado, CA to Lompoc, CA (Vandenberg AFB for a Top Secret meeting). I was stopped at a walkway heading to a coffee shop. I had the green palm to say proceed. Something shiny caught my eye and I stopped to pick it up. Just as I stopped to pick it up...a car ran a red light and would have nailed me as I was crossing the walkway!!!! I thought to myself...what a stupid idiot. He could have hit me or somebody else.
When I got across the street and into the coffee shop I looked at what I picked up. It was a nice new looking penny. It had my birth year on it!!! That was neat. I showed it to a cute waitress and she smiled at me and got another waitress to come and talk to me. She said 'You are blessed with an angel, did you know'? I said I have seen my angel since I was a kid and he comes to me now and then. She said the penny was called 'A penny from Heaven'. It was meant for me to see and stop in my tracks to save my life. So..what do you guys think? Freeking weird!!!!
