volvo dohc head

Tons of work and not really worth the gains. It does make for a nice conversation starter but save your money for something else.

the volvo head is a very good flowing head. 500hp capable stock

ready to bolt on you say? That is interesting.ive wanted a dohc ever since i got a focus duretec for the old lady

So I've been studying the Volvo Head Swap. Not as much work as people think as long as you know how to weld aluminum. I called up to the u pull it in my area. $45 for the head to do the swap if I can find it and they have 4 cars with that engine.

really? 4? No way. The 16v engine was only built for a few years. you should go pull them and sell them on e-bay for 125$+ Ive only seen 5 in person and i have 3 of them.

isn't it just plugging up some of the water canals (can i call it canals?? what ever the water and liquids are runnign through in the head)????

ya i thought about this.. but i thought you also needed to get different camshafts...

You can use the stock cams and valves, but you need to get new pistons or cut the recess into them to allow for valve clearance.

Basically as far as head modification goes.
Weld aluminum block onto the back of the head,
Weld smaller 2 ports for the water flow, i've seen that some people just cut the gasket bigger though.
Drill and tap your block for the oil feed.
Then drill and tap your head to recieve the oil.
Swap your pistons and your done.

the cams also have to rotate, do they not? ;)

you gotta make custom tensioners and space out the cam sprockets.

you also need a custom intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

usually the engine management will need some mods too.

Ive got tuns new pics of the motor complete after it was done recently. She got tuned in new york on 25psi with the 2.5 crank inside making a whopping 625hp 640 torque on an 11.1 afr with a microtech engine tuning device.
My rangers next "evil face" also that turbo in the pics was a mock up, the real one was a gt42r ball bearing also
Ill be glad to throw my knowlege of these out to anyone really interested also.

They are very hard to find.

I have 2 heads, they are the only ones I have seen in person, and I have only seen two 16v cars on the road ever.

They flow better than an esslinger arca head up to .400", than the arca head takes off.

One of my heads is going on my fairmont, the other is for sale over at turboford.org.
