I've noticed that on some Rangers the VIN starts with 1FTZ and others it starts with 1FTY. What is the difference?

I depends on the year and you didn't post one... the above website should give you some insight. I looked up 2005 for the hell of it, and the forth position in that year referred to restraint system type, brake type and class. I'll bet it has something to do with wether or not it has 4 wheel ABS or not...
