So I am looking at getting a truck that is at a body shop. It was totalled out. Front end was not touched so I think I can salvage it. (new cab and bed) Anyway I got the vin number and it is telling me that it is a 2 door and its really a 4-door. And it says that the engine is an explorer not a ranger. WTF? Is this tech page right?http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/VIN_Codes.html
Here is my vin. #1FTZR15E01TA09742
What do you think?

Thanks

Wow that will work. Where did you go to get a history report? Thanks for the info.

This is from LMC Truck's VIN Identification page.

USA
Ford
Truck
GVWR 5,001 - 6,000 lbs
Ranger
4WD Super Cab 2-door
4.0 liter 242 CID V6
2001
Edison Assembly Plant
9,742'nd made in the first series of 99,999 Rangers.

It's an 01 Ranger with the 4.0 SOHC, and it hasn't had the crusie recall done yet.

That bitch'll burn to the ground one day...

I'm pretty sure that engineering still doesn't know exactly what causes it. I've read the "official" reason for the vehicles catching fire. Doesn't exactly sound plausible to me. Particularly the part where it can happen up to 8 hours after the engine is shut off.
