vice grips.

So do those really give you more traction? How is that for ride quality? I'd think it would make things a little bumpy.

good for ice traction.

The stupidest use I ever saw was a guy at work using a pair to keep an eye hook from slipping off a mis-sized lifting eye. Scared the hell out of me and let him know. Where I used to work, Wausau Tile who does all the outside concrete containers at McDaonalds, used to buy 5000 per year. They used them to clamp the molds together. Common to see a worker going by with a wheel barrow full of them. Purchasing manager I worked with said they probably had 30K in the shop. Don't know how many I have, they are everywhere from basement to garage to toolbox to pole barn. SawZall comes in close as a great tool.

Hey, if sawzall can take it apart, vice grips can hold it together.

Give me vice-grips, super glue, and a pile of parts, I'll give you back a truck. Just don't drive over 5 mph or bumpy roads.

I have a growing collection of them. One of the handiest ones I have I got as an old used one that someone trimmed a bit of the end of the jaws off and ground a notch in it. Soon as I saw it at an estate sale for like 50 cents I had to have it. Took it home, tested it on a piece of oxy-act welding rod and it fit perfect. Now I have a holder for oxy-act welding rod so I can use the filler rod right down to a tiny nub and not burn my hands. (Yes, I do dabble in the old-school welding art - I can lay a better bead with it than a stick welder so I still like using oxy-act when I can.)

I used to amaze myself how sweet I could weld up exhuast pipes with a coat hanger.

Vice grips work good for ground cables on a welder to... Lol

all hail the vise grips

My wife broke off the handle to our can opener and our electric was broken so she was like uh oh, what do we do now. Vise grips to the rescue! more leverage now too.

you can buy a can opener for a dollar at walmart

When I was a kid I saw an ad on TV for vise grips saying it was the only tool you'd ever need. At the time my dad had left us and taken all the tools with us.

Fortunately enough I found a pair in our garage under a bunch of crap. For three years that was my go to tool for any project I needed, including using it as a hammer.

I still use that one to this day even though I have probably 20 of them. The all metal ones just work better, it's a pain in the ass ripping carpet tiles off the floor when the handles of your vise grips keep popping off.

Leatherman even made a multi tool out of them.

and my final bit of Vise grip nostalgia...

Anybody remember the scene from "Gran Torino" when the Tau says he'll never be able to afford all the tools Walt has? Walt gives him a pair of vise grips, a roll of duct tape and a can of WD40. He says you can fix almost anything around the house with those three things.

Damned if it ain't the truth.

Edit: Found the scene

I prefer the vice grip brand over all others. They retain their teeth no matter what, and I can't count how many times i've bent/broken handles off of the store brand ones. The others just seem to be made with softer steel. :dunno:
:pray:VICE GRIPS:pray: lol.

Edit: Gran Torino was a kick ass flick!! I couldn't stop laughing when he's on the front lawn with the M1 screaming at the kids.

Edit again:

I'm just curious what chassis that Jag V12 with the dual quad conversion is being installed into... is it a Jag or some sort of kit car?

I actually just passed up the chance at a 5liter V12 BMW engine... V12 engines give me a major woodie...

vise grips are a real lifesaver!

what i do know is that without them,i'd be unable to do half the things i do.i only buy original name brand vice grips,i've noticed all the others(even what are 'good' names for other tools)just don't seem to measure up.

and x2 to that^

Cresant (AKA adjustable) wrenches are the same way, if it ain't a Cresant might as well go ahead and call it a glorified head rounder. :icon_thumby:

Same thing applies to CeeTee pliers... anything else just sucks nut. The pair of CeeTee pliers I use are the same ones my dad has used for 20 years... things are indestructible.
