Vibration

I have a vibration when excelerating from about 30Mph thru 50. I have an 89 Ranger XLT, Single Cab, 2.9L. I've put on new tires, just had them checked again for balance & their fine. New Shocks. I can feel the vibration in the cab back around where the Trans meets the drive shaft. The U-joints don't seem too loose, just a little. Once in a while there'll be an oscillating chirp or slight clank sound upon intial exceleration and then it stops. I've looked at everything underneath & can't find anything. Would U-Joints act this way, off and on??? I'm not sure of mileage...somewhere around 125,000. Is it possible for the drive shaft to suddenly go out of balance?

Does anyone have ANY other ideas.....It's driving me crazy!!

I would pull the drive shaft and ckeck the u-joints that way. Did you have the vibration before you chsnged the tires?

"just a little" Is enough.. Pull the driveshaft.

There was a little Vibration before the new tires, Not as much as now though.

The only other modification that was made, was going to 15 wheels & tires from the original 14's. The OD was kept almost the same, so I didn't think there should be a problem there.

Who did the balance? I once purchased some tires from DISCOUNT TIRE company. Upon driving out of the store the tires were obviously out of balance.. I promply drove back and complained. They took my tires off and rebalanced them... I drove out...the tires were still out of balance.. I drove back and insisted they put my tires on all FOUR of their machines. EACH machine told them to place different amounts of weights in different locations on my tires..
So I drove to the JEEP dealer and he balanced my tires.. I never had to rebalance them again for the life of the tires.
So I learned to NEVER buy tires from a tire store that wasn't BRANDED by the tires I was buying.
Just a little story to perhaps wake you up this morning.

do you have a 2 piece rear shaft with a carrier bearing? this can cause vibration and whining noise at different rpms.

No. It's a single drive shaft.... No Carrier Bearing.. thanks

with drive shaft installed: crawl underneath grab shaft with both hands (interlocked) two places near front joint and also rear joint. with e-brake set push up and pull down on shaft also twist shaft while watching close at joint
this is procedure we use at the local truck stop. chk rear diff fluid level, tranny fluid level. the next thing i would check is motor and tranny mounts. then look at leaf spring mounts. *Rule of Thumb* if vibration is felt more in your backside it is a harmonic vibration (rotational) tires, driveshaft. if felt more in the wheel vibration is front end. hope this helps

any chance you could have Limited slip problems in the rear end with this vibration and noise during exceleration?
