I was out on my brother in laws boat doing a little fishing...i noticed a ford Van-camper parked next to me when we got back. The owners were there and they gave me a tour. Its was pretty cool. I always wanted an RV and i think this is the way to go. I was just wondering if any of you guys have a van-campers and how practical they are. I am pretty much done with flying for a while so i am hoping that i can use this for vacationing....

You mean a class B RV? Too small to be an RV. No real room in them. If it doesn't have a toilet, it's worthless--even if it's just a little sani-pottie in a closet.

Next thing is, those are usually built on the weakest cheapest chassis. My in-laws had one and the axles, engine and tranny were too weak for it. Theirs had a fiberglass roof extension and heavy particle board furniture--including a little kitchette and a closet out behind the extended body. It was basically a 15-passenger van length cargo van as a base vehicle. It had 4 tranny rebuilds--one per out-west trip. It was sub-par through and through. It handled dangerously due to the overloaded chassis. It was quite a ride--twisting and wiggling down the road like an overloaded canoe.
