upgraded rim size/ gears to put in the diff.

i recently purchased a 1997 mzda b2300 se extened cab and upgraded dthe wheels and tires to 17 inch rims running 255/50/17 tires. the problem is the truck has slowed down on inclines. i once had this problem with an older chevy and put gears in the diff. Just wondering what gears are available for that diff. Any help is deeply apreciated

You probably have the ford 7.5" axle being a 2.3L, and I assume its a 2wd so you would only need to change one. The gearing avalible ranges from like 2.75 or so all the way up to 5.13 gearing. And depending on what gearing you have now you would mostlikely want to go 2 steps from what you currently have.

Witht he wheel tire combo you have on your truck I wouldnt go higher than 4.11:1 But I believe even 3.93:1 would work for you.

+1 on the 4.11s. She should perk right up with those.

+ 2 on the 4.11 and after the gears upgrading your brakes wouldn't be a bad Idea to slow the rolling mass of larger than stock Rubber and Wheels.

Well technically he has the same brakes as the 4x4 rangers so the brakes are stopping tires and wheels closer to the 4x4 size...

And going with 4.10 gearing really depends on what he currently has... 3.73's may be a better option.

3.73s are probably what he currently has in....I know that is what I have in my 94 B2300

Eh... I don't really know 2wd gearing. I always figured it was more in the 3.55 gearing and what not...

Well a 2wd is conciderably lighter then a 4x4 and the gears really are for the tires and wheels only. so the small 4cylinder pushing stock wheels with 3.55's would actually be quite fast and still have guts, but as soon as you plopped 27's or 30's or somthing it would fall flat on its face...

My friends 2wd 4cylinder came with 3.55 but the tires are 195/70R14 or somthing. And its pretty fast.

by what the door sticker says i already have 3:73 gears in there what would be the next two steps up?
