Upcoming Build, 87 4x4 Suggestions! Objections?

I have never done a 4.0 clutch swap but as with anything, bigger is usually better, especially with things that make you go or stop. I say do it.

Just added the 4:56's a lock-Right and I had a custom driveshaft made. You need to shorten the stock shaft about an inch after swapping in the 35, but Im using a Dana 20 transfer case, so I had a shaft made for Dana 20 on one end and D35 on the other. Same on the other end shaft. Good thing about the 20 is that a Atlas will bolt right in.

I'm leaning towards it, after tear down and some tech library reading I'll come to a decision. Do you daily drive yours with that D44 on the front? I'll have to check out your build thread.

That's a nice setup. Whats the low on that Tcase? I think only reasoning that keeps me from going crazy on this build is that I'll be using it on pavement more than half the time. No point in sinking all that into it if its not a dedicated toy. I'm itching to do the D44 SAS with a v8 but just can't justify it...for now..

I can see in your pic (OP) that the drop pitman arm for your steering linkage is too short for the amount of lift on it... You'll want to figure a bigger drop arm (or new linkage) into your plan as well.

I did the 4.0L clutch upgrade on my '90 BII. It's definitely among the better mods I've done. The clutch feel is much improved (engagement is far smoother than with the stock clutch, it's not near as sudden).

I also have 5.13 gears w/35s... It'll do 90 MPH if I want. Driving 90 MPH in a short-wheelbase truck on 35" tires is quite the thrill ride though, so I don't make a habit of it.

Not at the present but I did for a while. The only reasons I don't daily drive it are gas mileage (about 10-14) and I try to keep it out of the road salt as much as possible in the winter. The body has a ton of dents and trail rash but no rust.

I have six vehicles at the moment so I alternate between them.
