Um probely not good.....Not an RBV....


your grinding sounds more than a little like my ranger...

we have completely different trucks but that rolling/gringing noise in my ranger (like yours) is also most noticeable in 2wd. at speed, when I put it in 4x4 hi, the noise goes away instantly, back to 2wd and it's back. could tghe tension of running 4x4 hide a f*cked up axel bearing or broken ring gear? There is play when I pull on the top of the left rear wheel...new to fords so a bit dumb about problems.
 
Well....

Yesterday i pulled the front and rear diff covers...no metal shavings or signs of damage in either one.

I drained the fluid from the t case....i got a hunk of metallic shavings so large that it plugged the drain hole!

I figured "what do i have to lose?"....i drained the fluid and refilled it, and now it works fine????

Im ging to see how long...but i think a trip to the boneyard is in order.
