Uh Oh..This is not good.

Yes, while Ford's new F-150 has a boxed and welded frame (which they ar extremely proud of) I would love to see that done with an older F-series, especially the 80-96 style. They have more flex than Junkie's TTB and there isn't a single crossmember welded in, it's all rivets. I've had friends with F-250's put dents in their cabs above the window line from the bed smacking during flex offroad.

And Toyota didn't even make a full size back then, I thought this was about new current trucks.
I will give imports credit when they deserve it, and give them hell when they try to pass off crap as good stuff, and try to say it is better than a domestic.

those would look nice with a powerstroke and a redone interior.

I don't even bother to reply to dustins comments anymore really. But anyway...while boxed frames have alot of strength, in the areas where we use salt they tend to rot out and break in half, I don't see too many mazdas, toyotas, or nissan hardbodys around here for that reason. I would much rather have a well built c-channel frame any day of the week.

Your totally right! I used to have a 98 tacoma, Frame rotted out and broke in half. I don't know how moisture got in there but it never got out and just rusted away from the inside out. My 95 ranger has seen 12 New England winters and the frame is as strong as it was in 95.

wow and vehicles continue to get uglier..... What happened to trucks and looked like trucks? If i wanted to drive the batmobile with a bed, i guess i can look to toyta now.

As someone who has had two japaneese trucks that had boxed frames, I will say that boxed frames are really bad for those of use who live in the salt belt. I had a frame snap. In fact, my experiences with those two trucks were so bad that I now drive a Ford with a C channel frame. everybody I knew was telling to drive a jap truck, so I did. I learned my lesson. It's sad to me to see ford pushing a boxed frame. They may be stronger initially, but you can't wash all the crap out of them.

Now if Ford would coat the inside of there frames with a spray on bed liner or something close they would be in business.

I like that truck. Im a toyota fan. But I drive a ranger and I couldnt be happier. I wouldnt hesitate to own one of those trucks. At the least you can say your helping the american economy by getting a tundra.

I was under the impression that all the frames were dipped in that black undercoating stuff you see on the trucks now. I can't imagine it's sprayed on, the coverage looks thorough from what I've seen.

As for the salt, is there a reason you couldn't put a hose on one end and wash the frame out every once in awhile? Seems like it would be a maintainance thing.

ya they dip them in e-coat. But its hard to get it totally coated because of air pockets. Also, when dirt, salt, etc gets stuck in there it tends to wear the coating off.

Yes it is a maintenance thing, not too hard to get under there and stick a hose in one of the many holes they put in the frame. How many people do YOU know that would get under their truck with a hose in the middle of January though? Probably a very small percentage of the millions of people who buy them.

I can't believe they continue to use TuRD. Someone at Toyota knows the truth!!
ROTFL!!!

why buy an auto when its so much fun to side step the clutch at the redline? all of my vehicles are 5 speed for a reason.

They really need to master making a half ton truck before moving on to the heavier ones. They had a recall for a error in the production of the camshafts ruining the 5.7 engine, and 200 lbs will make the tailgate buckle and fall apart as they are glued together as opposed to welded. That is just the crap that I have heard about. The circa 2004 F-150 has a 5 star crash test rating as opposed to the Tundra's 4, that justifies the boxed frame for me.
