You're correct, there are two seal setups, although they seem to be confined mostly to '90-'92 for one type, '93-'97 for the other (they can be interchanged anyway).
This isn't the case with the u-joints or most of the other "D28" parts that seem to be offered for '91-'97 trucks however.
Brakes changed in '95 too, but again, the part numbers will be the same for the D28/35 hybrid axle as for a same-year D35 (this is why they're dubbed a "hybrid", only the diff housing itself is D28, all the rest of it is D35).
