Turboed 300?

an He351 (thats from the 24v cummins right?) would be over kill......... would prolly boost enough to blow the head gaskets.....

Maybe with some ARP head studs, steel composite head gaskets, Main studs and a main girdle....... you might be able to boost a 300 I6 to 30psi.

[EDIT] keep in mind I don't know anything about turbo charging a gas engine but I do know a little about diesels and the 300 I6 has a very similar power curve to a diesel. [/EDIT]

Yes, it's the one that is run on the 2005-07 cummins.

I run the he351 on my 2.3 and it hits full boost (up to 30# depending on where I set the WG) at about 3800 RPM. On a motor over twice it's size with a little worse breathing, I would expect it to spool just after 2000 rpm. I think that would be very useable and street friendly. I would set the WG to about 15# and I think you could expect 500 ft/lbs and 350-400 rwhp with a good tune (read: megasquirt). It would likely run really strong from 2000-5000 RPM and then just drop off (assuming you get a mild aftermarket cam).

I've never turboed a 300 (but have wanted to), and this is just me shooting off the hip based on my experience with turbocharging.

you don't want to spin a 300 @ 5 grand........ it doesn't have the lung capacity to breath well enough over 3600 rpms .......... you want to keep everything low like a diesel....... you could spin a 4.0L (or a 258ci) I6 at 5 grand. I read an article on a turbo'd 4.0L I6 spinning at 8 grand but that motor had some money tied up in it.

I would also like to see a Turbo'd 300 ...... might put an end to the 300 vs 302 argument.........

Perhaps I've overestimated the 300. I drove one in a e250 for a full summer, man it was gutless, but you just couldn't kill it. Never had a tach though and it was an auto, so I'm not really sure where it made power.

The guy does want to get an aftermarket cam and open it up a bit though. I'm sure a bit of mild porting would help it out too, so you might be able to make 4500-5000 useable.

you don't want to though..... the benefit of that engine is it's diesel like power curve....... you do, however, want to make more with in that power curve....

3.55 is a common gear with the 300 ....... 3.55 is also a common gear with a big rig........

I think a Turbo'd 300 with a 5spd, gear splitter, 3.55, 265/75/16s would be about the right combo for towing with a gasser.

you get the reliability of the 300, ease of maint. of the 300....power of a big block... and big rig like gearing.

[EDIT] I think anything with a manual transmission that is used for towing anything more that 5000 pounds on a regular basis should have a gear splitter..... gas or diesel [/EDIT]
