hello,
i am very new to this forum, and the concept of turboing my ranger. i have an 87 efi 2.3 that i want to turbo. i have had it for a very long time, i want it to be fast now. someone just gave me a motor out of an 87 or 88 turbo coupe, that they used to own. it is mising the turbo and the wire harnesses, and prob some other things. the previous owner claimed to have rebuilt the motor and never had problems with it. he also claimed to have been running 18-20lbs of boost on it. i need advice on what i need to do, what i need and where to get it. I will appreciate any and all feedback..

I'm gonna be doing the same swap this weekend...... I'll let you know how it goes and what you're gonna need when I get it in!!!!

use your stock wiring harness on it just add the turbo related sensors (mainly the VAM)

Awesome! Let me know, because im seriously considering putting a 302 in it.

do the turbo swap. its the easiest engine swap you can do. besides being way cooler than any V8. I used the stock harness with mine. I moved like two or three wires to different pins, removed like two or three and added two for the VAM. very very simple as far as wiring. Besides that it drops right in on the same motor mounts. Call around to local junk yards and track down a turbo for it. Do you know if it was intercooled? the 88 was stock intercooled and is from what i can tell the best setup. In addition to the turbo you will need the computer out of the turbocoupe. try to find a EECIV computer because that will go with all the sensors and the VAM. Speaking of which you will need the Vane Air Meter from the car. Like 100$ at autozone and the 88 had the large VAM which was bigger and better. check out the Tech library and there is a ton of useful info and if you have any specific questions personal messege me or one of the other guys and we will be more than happy to help. I just finished my swap (well its never really done) and have about 500 miles on it and no problems. All i had to do was a little timming and it fired right up. all the sensors seem to work with my gauge cluster and this was an easy and cheap build. all in all so far i have only got like 1200 in it including the motor and shipping from out of state. Turbo is the way to go!
