I was flushing my brothers trucks radiator and this nasty rust came out for about 15 minutes. It was pretty nasty

you'll never get rid of that btw. My old 94 Ranger had the smae problem and i bet i flushed it 20 times using radiator flush fluid and everything and each time i did it, it was as bad as the first time i flushed it

my jeep did that too, never got rid of it, probably flushed it 6 times before i gave up on it..

Had the same deal with my old crapalier, i just unhooked the rad hose, and forced water through the whole system till it came out crystal clear. Worked for me, plus I got my heat back! (Clogged heater core)

Yeah, that's what I did when I blew a freeze plug in the ranger. I ran it in the head and out the lower rad hose until it came clear. Took about 4 hours, but it did work.

I pulled both hoses off and the water pump and tstat the ran the hose full in every direction to get the rust out of the block the radiator and heater core all at once then put it back together with a new water pump, hoses all of them and did the oven cleaner in the heater core and radiator before the final flush and she stays nice and clean now with close to %80 green prestone. If you have air blast the core good with air before and after the oven cleaner I guess bleach works good also to loosen the crud just be careful of your clothese and eyes.

Ive never heard of the oven stuff. ill look into that. We used the prestone flush cleaner and it sorta worked. My brother just kept adding water(kinda is why the radiator is completely rusted inside) and 0 antifreeze for at least a year. im surprised it didn't freeze up this winter.

Same thing in my truck. Someone told me it's just a ford thing. I flushed my radiator about 20 times and no change. Eventually the rust clogged the propellers to my water pump and caused over heating

Are you sure he didn't use Dex-Cool?

Back when I was mechanic, coolant flushes could be either a walk in the park or a ticking time bomb. I had to do one on a Dodge Dakota. The coolant was no longer fluid like. It was mud and not the slushy kind. Took me 3hrs just to flush that crud out just so I could do the coolant flush. And even after that, the green coolant turned brown after a few thermostat cycles.

My mom's Blazer has the same issues. But its not because of lack of mantiance. Its that dang Dex-Cool that breaks down after 1yr or 12k miles. Every 30k miles, I would have to flush the system. This time, I fixed that problem. Flushed the system till the water came out clean and clear. And then I used the Prestone all in one green coolant. 2yrs later, still green and depoist free.

ya i have no idea what was used before this was the first time i ever fixed anything on my brothers dodge. ill be doing this on my ranger here pretty soon though
