Names Devon new here. Just bought a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT. Now it only has a few interior issues. First is my passenger door lock, it will only unlock if you pull up on the knob, it wont unlock with my key or my key pad what could it be? It feels like its stuck. Next is my interior light, the wires are there but not the light, how hard it is to install it? and are they expensive? Thanks for any info.

First thing coming to mind on your first problem is possibly a locked-up (broken) actuator in the passenger door. Regardless, you're going to have to pull the door panel to get in there and look for what's wrong. Be a good idea to go on ahead and pick up a basic repair manual for your truck, like Chiltons. Or, do searches here in the forums and you'll usually find enough info to get you going.

The dome light shouldn't be a big deal at all. Go to a junkyard and get you one; in the process you'll see how it comes out, and disconnects. You get the part for the lowest cost, and, you're also all set when it comes to the process of installing it back into your truck.

+1 on what Robbie said on both accounts, only thing I can add is that I scored a new dome light for mine at my local yard for something like $5 all I actually needed was the base but I got an extra lense for it now "just in case"

junk yard dome light

I found one at my local yard for $10, but the one in my 97 is completely missing (just two wires w/plastic connectors attached) so I have no reference point for removal of the junk yard one. Do they just pop out with a screwdriver or is there a better way? I don't want to mess up the replacement. Thanks for any replies.

Dido what those guys said. Maybe the reason the dome light is missing is because the Dome light would not turn off. This frequently happens with later model rangers because the "door ajar" switch sticks. The switch is located inside the door on the bottom of the latch mechanism. http://www.rangerpowersports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201707

I would suggest replacing the dome light first. Then if the light does not go out because the switch is stuck, you can go into the door and deal with both issues at the once.:icon_cheers:
