Truck does not accelerate properly

i will get the codes read again today, the OG ones got washed with my pants. i will buy the removal tool tomorrow and give the fuel filter a try and if nothing then off with the cats to see if they're plugged. :icon_welder:

Vicma let me guess you are a welder and you are dying to weld something. Lol. Remember diagnose then replace post the codes when you get them. Hit the filter with some rust penatrator

no not a welder but am very good at tearing shiot up and blow torching things are my fav thing to do.

sorry i havent gotten the codes read yet, i am very busy that its actually costing me money in gas. i stopped by Advance and one idiot told me he fixed the problem."sigh" He turned off the CEL light DOGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! and mention that the truck was running to lean, i go into work today at 11 and will stop by another store to re try

yes the obd port is now working the cig. lighter fuse inside the cabin was the one that was burnt and replaced.

the fuel filter has not been replaced yet, found out it needs some special tool to remove. could i just yank it out?

i will stop by auto parts store and recheck.

Can a bad 02 sensore cause any loos of power if not working right?

I'm going to make a sticky post at the top of this forum

"Before asking any dignostic question about why your engine does this or that replace the fuel filter."

Don't check the codes, don't do this... or that.... don't even think!

Just change the fuel filter.

SEE if the problem solves itself.

If it doesn't THEN start spending brain energy.

there's an old dictum, do all the cheap stuff first before you even begin to think something else might be the cause.

The only "known good" fuel filter is one you haven't gotten the gasoline smell off your hands from changing.

all others are atleast suspect.

yep!

Times two! Most guys change their oil filter every 3 or 4 thousand miles and forget about their fuel filter till they are parked in the weeds besides I-20 in the middle of the desert.. Then they get on the internet asking what in the world could be wrong with their ride..

I agree also about the ff. Vicma seems like a good guy but I bet he is a young kid and is dying to throw parts at it,,,,,,,,change the fuel filter and read the codes.......

lol im 34 yrs. look Guys I know the basics when it comes to mechanics, of course i would work from the cheapest to the most expensive. i have delt with bad fuel pumps, fuel filters, fuel injectors, bad mafs, TPS, you name it and i honestly think this is a sensor problem. I am a father of three kids, and i am busy 24 1/2 hours a day:shok: I wish i had more time to dabble with the truck but i cant, im trying to pin point the problem in order to attack the problem the first chance i get. I have three things in mind wich is the fuel filter, 02 sensor before the cat and a clogged cat. i appreciate all the input here and i know it frustrates people that i do not reply fast, beleive me ive been in the same boat but i will get to the bottom of this so the site can have this on record and could be available for another person with the same type of situation. Peace, Ill keep you all posted.

well well well. i finally changed the fuel filter, o2 sensors and rthe maf and guess what, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a bit frustrated and sat for a bout 5 minutes staring at mt recipricating saw annd.......... then i snapped and hacked off my cats. well after the deed was done i turned on the truck and it started to idle bad, so i let it settle down a bit before moving it and when i hit that baby on first it took off like a bat outta hell.

well at the end the cats were plugged and was not letting me pick up speed after 25000 rpms. Now i replaced the cats with a straight pipe all the way to some new OEM ford mufflers. The truck now runs a lot smother and picks up speed fast

I am having the same problem with my 94 4x4... changed maf, fuel pump, fuel filter, o2 sensors.... big power loss and after driving for a few minutes the cats start glowing....

Did you reset the EEC after changing the MAF and O2 sensors? What codes have you pulled? Running too rich can cause the cat to glow.

for the "most part" the after cat sensors just read info. They do not effect engine management( I know some peeps will argue with me) the precat sensors do effect engine management and could create a loss of power.........if you have a Costcos near you and are a member I got a codereader from them for $20. it is handy because sometimes the codes are just pending and never set the CEL off. if you own the codereader you can randomly check when the truck acts up...... check the CATS after you have been driving and see if they are super hot, even glowing!

I hate to be the one who argues with you, but the MIL sensors (aftercat) have alot to do with how the engine runs, THey dont affect engine management, so to speak, but it wont run right unless you delete them when o2's are turned off via tuners. Read up on them on the mustang sites, theres alo tmore explanatory info there.

i am having the same problem with my 96. No power drags ass and smells like fuel all around my engine bay. I got codes that said cyl 5&6 misfire and bank 2 running too lean. Could this seriously be a plugged cat? I havent replaced my ff but have changed coil, wires and plugs. Any suggestions oh and Im getting about 10 mpg its horrible.

CEL light comes on after about 30 miles after i reset the comp. until that it seems to run fine or maybe its in my head.

Some months ago some douche at a garage replaced my 6 injector and said that was the cause for the misfire. I quickly found that was not the case.

Please advise
