I got one like that from craigslist. The guy wanted to buy a used 2.9L and he would send me a check for more than the price that I cash at my bank and send him the change. Oh yeah, he was headed overseas so someone else would pick it up. This almost sounds real, yeah right.

I got a couple hits off CL offering to send their shipper to my address. I just told em I changed my mind and that now I wanted $45,000 cash... for some random thing. They just responded "Hi how are you? I am pleased with price and condition of the item....."

I'd take the word "cheque" to be a major warning sign.

I was thinking the same thing when I read it. My personal eBay policy is that if someone pays me by check I hold the item for 10 days.

I get those on CL all the time. Some guy offered me 10 grand for a used ProComp 33" That didn't sit right with me lol

I was thinking the same thing when I read it. My personal eBay policy is that if someone pays me by check I hold the item for 10 days.

10 days is usually good enough for domestic checks, but not nearly long enough for international checks.

clark howard radio show talks about this scam all the time,certified check bounces and bank comes after you.don't deposit check and don't send any money!the other scam is a "you hit the lottery"in some other country,but we need to send a check to you for processing fees,deposit check and send back any overpayment.yeah right!

if you don't trust a member on here that sends you a pm to buy something look at the join date and post count. i have been around for quite a while and have seen many members get screwed years ago. Jim and Ryan to the best they can but sometimes someone will slip through the cracks. the users that were just recently banned had a post count of 0 and a recent join date. if something doesn't seem right get a phone # and an address and do some checking. you can do a reverse phone lookup for free and see if the addy they give you matches the phone look up. i have bought and sold parts though trs in the past and never had problems before . something that might help is require a location for members. i would like to thank Jim and Ryan for the hard work that they put into this site to keep this from happening.
