NOTICE:
We are very close to the Pacific Ocean. This has been a major undertaking, and we should seriously consider getting media coverage. Especially since social media is such a hot topic today. We couldn't have done this without it.
I think the person who dips it should be the one who's willing to contact the media, explain it, and see if they will cover it.
Here's a email I sent to Scott Monty at Ford:
I think this is a bigger deal than any of us realize, and the right people trying to push social media may want to be all over it. Hell, I wish I had the $$ to be there.
Remember, the mission is to get it dipped in the Pacific. That doesn't mean it can't still go up or down the coast.

Hey Scott,
Here's something you might find interesting.
In 2010 I set out to see if we could move a banner from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean using only the members of our forum. The members use the forum to coordinate hand off's and meeting locations, and everyone who comes in to contact with the banner signs it. It can't move forward unless it's physically given to another forum member and they drive it.
It started out on May 20th 2010 being dipped in the Atlantic Ocean around Worcester MA. From there it travelled across the country getting signed, and even got dipped in the Gulf of Mexico. This past winter slowed it down, but it finally made it to Ft. Lewis (near Seattle) Washington where it's very close to achieving its mission. I've thought about getting the media involved when it happens, and explaining how this all happened from a group of Ford enthusiasts using a message forum.
Here's the whole forum thread:

Here's some articles I've put together with group photos:

I'm working on a 3rd story right now that will bring it up to its current location.
I know your profession evolves around social media, and figure you of all people could appreciate what our members have put in to this. It's a big task to be undertaken using nothing but a forum to coordinate it and post photos. The banner has been to some interesting places.
Thanks,
Jim Oaks
